Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 1407cm

Posted on Friday 21st February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

We’ve got a little sun, and very little new snow, welcome break for your tired snow removal teams. The sun is shining, although through some thin clouds. Clouds are also swirling around Mt. Myoko again; could be snowing up there on the hill, although the summit does peek out at times.

The morning weather reports do have snow forecast all through the day for Niigata. It’s not here yet, or perhaps our status as a part of Shin-Etsu—a bit of Niigata sticking into and surrounded by Nagano—kind of puts us a long way from Niigata City and the weather that’s happening in the rest of the prefecture.

I have to apologize for a bit of fumbled typing yesterday; I saw that I had initially entered “211” rather than “21” for the total snowfall in cm; I thought I corrected it, but I think I hit the laptop trackpad and out went the inflated figure. No, we did not get 211cm of fresh; thanks to MP-san and others who quickly sent a note to see if I was buried in snow.... Almost, but not due to one day’s snowfall.
