Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 1312cm

Posted on Tuesday 20th March 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The rain has turned to light snow; the national news is still reporting that it could really snow tomorrow. Looks like the Kanko area (including Tokyo) might get snow as well, which means white flakes falling during cherry blossom viewing in the capital city. It has been a unique season on the weather front.

I’m a bit confused by Lotte Arai’s reporting; they noted some of their avalanche-controlled areas “Course closed” instead of “Temporarily closed” yesterday, but they’re back to temporary only. When in doubt, check their website before going! And good job, Seki Onsen, for finally revising your snow depth (-50cm overnight, even with the snow falling! Yes, I am being snarky...)
