New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 971cm

Good morning (just)!

A late start today, without a snowthrower and armed with only a shovel to dig out the 30cm or so that came in from last night. How did people live in this part of the world before the coming of hydraulics and turbocharged diesel engines?

Nice snowfall overnight; a little heavy, and some wind along with the snow. It's still coming down midday, with some winds perking up from time to time and building cornices on the snow walls. Should be some good, soft snow skiing today.

The winds coming in off the coast are coming down a bit, and the atmospheric pressure is rising—and the forecast is for the possibility of brighter conditions tomorrow, warmer temperatures, and then more snow from late Thursday (rain is a possibility, but we won't mention that just yet).

Today, too, the wind says be extra careful when traveling off the courses.

It was on the news last night, but it bears repeating: if you're off the course in the trees, you might as well be five kilometers back in the mountains - you're not safer just because you're close to the resort. If you don't have the right gear (beacon, shovel, probe, water, food, some extra clothes, etc.), you really shouldn't be out there. "Your own responsibility" is only good until you're in trouble, as a wise local man said to me once—once you're hurt or lost or stuck out there, you'll be responsible in the end, but you'll be dependent on others in the meantime.
