Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 170cm

Posted on Friday 1st January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Happy New Year! And happy new snow (sounds like a Japanese ad campaign: "Oh fresh my new snow!" Written with love....)

About 30cm new at the base of Akakan today. It's dark over Mt. Myoko still today, but sunny to the south and east - and, as I'm going snowshoeing for a first visit to the shrine at Togakushi, perfect weather.

Still looks like snow in the Mt, Myoko area and to the north, which would be welcome. It's looking more like normal, but we can still use more snow.

Not all resorts have reported in yet, but we can't wait! Gotta get out there! (And sorry - I see that Akakan accidently wrote 190cm yesterday, which did seem odd. Editor please take note for the totals for the season! Don't want to add an unwarranted 80cm).

Akakura Kanko:

All lifts running
