New snowfall at base 39cm
Snowfall at base this season 357cm

Another great day of snow gets us back in that Myoko mood. I can't tell you how liberating it is to get the snowthrowing machines going. We complain, but when we don't get to make things nice and neat it just feels wrong....
This is in fact the second best day of the year so far; my records say we had 40cm on January 7, and we just missed that at base level today. Much lighter snow today, too; lots of beautiful big star-like crystals early in the morning, just nice mixed stuff later on. Still way too bushy outside the ski areas for much climbing (or turning). I did hear from several people that they set off sluffs, with the ice layer under the surface (the result of that last bit of rain before the snow) not bonding well to the new. Be careful on steep open slopes; think about where you might end up if things did slide! Lots of narrow valleys in Myoko to get caught in with lots of snow coming down on top of you (just trying to paint an unpleasant picture; we want you to be safe!).
Let's see how long this welcome change in conditions continues!
