Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 14cm
Snowfall at base this season 371cm

Posted on Tuesday 4th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

More snow again, as it looks very much like Myoko should. The snow has tapered off, and some fog has rolled in as the report goes up. The freezing level is supposed to go up today a bit before going way down tomorrow, and lots of snow is predicted. We are excited. Should be a lot of fun today, and more so as the week goes on. In the backcountry, there still is a lot of brush and small trees (and vines) in a lot of places, and particularly high up. A few days ago there was some trouble with the snow breaking on an ice layer down 50-60cm or so when people were offpiste on steep slopes; haven't heard anything today but I see some local testers heading out to probe around. Will let you know what they find.

I have also removed the individual lift information from each resort; all the main lifts are going (and many that are shown as not operating never do get used anyway!). If there are closures, I will add those to the individual resort reports. But I think I can say that the season is now officially on and we're back to somewhat normal (OK, not really, but the skiing is, as always, fun).
