After a day of steady snowfall, the stars came out about 9 pm--following some beautiful, big, star-shaped flakes floating down (wish we had more of those, instead of the smaller, wind-packed flakes that made things slow in the powder except on steeper slopes). Tip of the day: look at the snowflakes falling on your jacket; compare with the ski conditions. Something to do on the lift...
A nice, sunny, calm start to the day, with some light clouds starting to move in now. Snow is on the forecast ahead for the coming days--maybe another big fall, too!
For the backcountry crowd: a dig yesterday shows a pretty stable snowpack. There is a layer down about 70 cm (probably from sun late last week) that resulted in isolated breaks on steep rolls and other features. There's more fresh on top today, so exercise caution, don't go out without your gear (too many people with no beacon shovel or probe--never a good idea), and have some safe fun!
