Be careful what you wish for: one of the fine people behind this website and I were chatting yesterday about how we miss the almost-emergency days of the past few years when the snow takes over daily life.... well, it almost happened today. Lots of snow, lots of wind, drifting, blowing, probable lift and train stoppages (no shower in the house at first too--blocked exhaust pipe).

Ah, the joys of snow country.

Hard to tell how much actually fell, because there was a lot of drifting, but it was a lot, and the density is pretty high. Let's say probably half a metre.

Offpiste, things are a little sketchy; we did see some avalanche debris in valleys below some steep open faces two days ago, probably some sliding over the rain crust that was still persisting in the snowpack. We'll be digging today, so I'll let you know how things are changing (but be careful, and watch for sluffs at least on the steeps today).
