Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 1184cm

Posted on Tuesday 16th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Lots of talk on the news about the snow coming in from today kept your writer waking up way too much last night (that wind started to pick up after 3 am, with several big blasts that drew me to the windows).

Fortunately the snow only started falling seriously around 7, so no snow clearing to accomplish yet. Looks like the 18th could be the peak for snowfall.... Happy to see it, though after losing snowpack during the warm weather and rain (the more honest of our resorts are reporting something like 20-30cm less snowpack than yesterday).

This is really the season for good snowfall, but some pretty warm spells in between.
