Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 16cm
Snowfall at base this season 1200cm

Posted on Wednesday 17th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The snow is really starting to fall now, although the total accumulation up to this report is not that great. Crazy winds yesterday mid-day: suddenly the trees exploded into clouds of blowing snow, and the mountains had big ribbons of flying snow heading up the slopes. Quieted down later in the day as the snow started to fall again.

The forecast is for a lot of snow into tomorrow, although it looks like the heaviest might be falling further north in Niigata prefecture. Ready for a mid-day plowing today, just in case we're buried tomorrow!
