Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 779cm
Posted on Thursday 12th March 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
Snow on the surface today, not much but it does make things look nice and white again. Up high the trees are white again, which is always good to see, and there might have been (as often happens) more snow mid-mountain than at the base or the summit.
Pretty sunny out there, though, although there are some fluffy, almost summer-like clouds over the mountains to the south and east.
Should be sunny and warm again as the freezing level makes another climb tomorrow, but "only" to 1800 meters. Then, could it be a few days of snow ahead? My snow-removal machines are getting rusty waiting for some work here, so they'd be happy. Machines having the Buddha nature and all that (thank you Gary Snyder, our Beat reference for the season).
