Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this season 247cm

Posted on Sunday 10th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba.

Some more snow, though not as much as yesterday.

Come mid week we might get a few days when there are clearer skies and featured appearances by the sun. Before then expect some more snow today and perhaps on and off early week.

Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan.

Someone wrote in complimenting (?) me for being 'positive' in my comments yesterday.

My response to that goes something like this.

I wasn't being particularly 'positive' or 'negative'. I was simply commenting on the current (snow) situation... which happily is really good!

One real advantage of not twisting myself into all sorts of awkward shapes hyping things up all the time - as well as being able to sleep peacefully at night - is that it gives space and clarity. Acknowledge when things are great. And also when they're not. As a skier visiting other areas, that's what I'd always want.

I'd also of course complain when a reporter doesn't live in a hut at the top of the mountain, reporting from there. ;)

Anyway enough of my silly blabbering!
