bob 0
It used to crack me up when I was in Japan all the ojisan and obasan picking (what looked like) weeds from the roadside - what you call them? Sansai, mountain vegetables. They were real nice when tempura, didn't look too good at the side of the road though.
Wab 0
Delicious. But as you said, give it to me as made tempura - not too keen on seeing it being picked. I wouldnt know the difference between nettles and oishii ones.
viv&kev 0
I went picking some sansai last spring. It was an education, I can tell ya. I can now tell the difference between that curly wierd one and the long thin wierd one. viv
zwelgen 0
Sansai yumyumyum! yet another good reason to live in the stix. The guy that owns the shoe shop in town here and his buddy the mechanic have their own secret places for sansai. They swore us to secrecy and took us to pick sansai at their best places. One involved climbing a cliff and holding onto vines while picking the stuff and another was walking up a dryish riverbed and climbing another cliff to get to them. They sure tasted good after all that effort! The mechanic and the shoe shop guy keep trying to coax out of me where each others places are. Damn I live rural But I love sansai, good on and in anything
