gnarly-dude 1
Is this bullshit? (From a lads mag) ------ Key phrase: Hold tight and ditch the skis If you find yourself facing an onrushing wall of white, grab hold of anything that may stop you being swept away. Skis drag you under so discard them; if you're still carried off try to stay on the surface using swimming motions - at speed snow behaves like water. Then "wait until the snow starts to settle and dig upwards."
Fattwins 0
yes ditch and grab something if possible. Snowboarders with klickers sometimes make a rope between the bindings that will allow them to unstrap in an avie. Ditch poles skis goggles over the mouth might help too at the end. mattlucas 0
That big avy last year in BC in the Selkirks. There were a couple people in it. The diehard skiers tried to ski out of it by traversing however were swept off there feet and subsequently burried. 2 of the skiers however were avid kayakers and tried to remaim in the flow keeping there equipment facing downhill and fighing to stay on top. They were lucky and were only parcially buried. That was taken from a Couloir mag. But just something to think about. Instinct is to traverse out of it but if you have the balls it might be alright to just point it straight and ride it out. You probably can't outrun it but...
