Have you ever had to fire anyone?

My company is cutting back now and some people are going to have to go, I'm interested to see how they treat it all.

But I have been fired. Not for doing anything wrong, cost cutting.

Yes, and it wasn't fun. They took it well though, I think they didn't like the job anyway. I took the polite but firm approach.

Yeah I kind of had to fire a friend once who I'd gotten the job in the first place. I did it on behalf of my other friend who was the boss. The guy was basically skiving off on the job. My mate said it was my responsibility as I'd got him the job to begin with. The guy who got fired wasn't that bothered about it really although he thought the boss was a prick for getting me to tell him.

I once gave a job reference for an Australian woman who was going out with a very good Japanese friend without really knowing her. What a horrible mistake that was. She turned out to be a complete nutter, embarrassing me and my friend. I won't be giving references for 'friends' unless I've actually seen them work.

I did that once too, and never again. It's not worth the hassle and the responsibility is it, especially if you don't know someone that well.
