Digital video storage question

Recommended Posts

OK, so I've just plonked down a massive 9,800 yen for this digital video cam and I also bought a 256 MB memory card. (If you think the camera looks like a small piece of shit, feel free to say so - I couldn't care less). I got an au phone with a video on it (free), and while it's quite fun, it costs to send the crappy little vids to your PC.

I'd like to ask those who know, how much MP4 video does a 256 MB card hold? Roughly how many minutes am I likely to be able to take?

Looking at what I have, which is a sanyo

Best quality vid

128MB card - 5.14 mins

512MB card - 21.2 mins

Normal quality

128MB card - 20.10 mins

512MB card - 1hr 21mins

PS It looks shiny, not brown.

Thanks green.

So an in-between card seems quite adequate for the sort of snippets I'm likely to take.

Now all I need is a helmet camera. If you were to strap a camcorder to some part of your body to film when riding with a head camera, I wonder which part of your body would offer the best protection to the camcorder if you bing...

I find if you just film the bits you really want 5 mins is a long time. If you get lots of crap waiting for the bit you want you can use lots of space.
