I had to walk a few blacks back up the road to buy an envelope at a conbini. I found this rather strange and annoying as all I wanted was one stinking envelope, yet the conbini only sold packets of 20. I then found that the long narrow Japanese envelope was not suitable for my document. "Sorry, this is the only one that we sell. In Japan we use long narrow envelopes". This became rather evident as I was not able to buy a non-long and narrow envelope anywhere. There are 1,452 things that I do not miss about Japan and this is one of them.
