scouser 4
I was talking to some of my Japanese friends last night about skiing, snowboarding and the like. I foget how it came up but one of them said that Yuzawa Kogen used to have a different ropeway from the one they have now about 100 meters up from where the current one is. Seems like a daft idea to me, was he pulling my leg.. anyone know?
Ski Japan Guide 0
Scouser, your friend wasn't joking. Before the current Yuzawa Kogen ropeway, there used to be one starting at the same point but going up to a location a bit higher up the mountain to the left as you look from the town. The large restaurant and "station" can still be seen there, and the restaurant has suffered since the new ropeway was installed because people have to walk up a steep hill to get there now. The previous ropeway was much smaller than the one they have now, and when the current one was made Yuzawa were very happy to boast of their "biggest ropeway in the world" tag (it holds 166 people).
