rach 1
Since the weekend, the sound coming from the speakers of my notebook computer has become horribly distorted - even at low volumes. I'm fairly sure I haven't messed up any settings, it's getting old so maybe they are just quitting. But just in case, anyone any idea what might be wrong and what settings to play with? Thanks. pie-eater 207
Before you start fannying about with settings, have you tried turning off and turning back on again?
snowdude 44
Possibility that your speakers are knackered. Plug in some headphones if they are clear your speakers are almost certainly buggered but if your headphones give off distorted sounds as well then got to be your setings. kokodoko 67
i agree it may be speakers.. imho.
snowdude 44
If its the sound card it will distort with headphones on too. If an a graphic equalizer / booster software is used and turned up too high can also do this.
Alexander L 80
it may just need a jolly well reboot and unplug n plug again.
Alexander L 80
Failing that, buy a new PC.

JA2340 16
That, then suggests that the speakers are buggered. Might be worth asking the shop if you can try the new ones at home and return them if they do not perform as expected.
