Mantas 3
The guy looking after us at our hotel has gone beyond the call of duty for us. Helping us out with a sick kid, running us around ect. and I don't think a slab of VB will square it up. Any suggestions for a gift? I know how quirky the Japanese are about this stuff. JA2340 16
Mantas, Only one suggestion, don't go overboard with it. The gift is symbolic rather than "payment" for the service. Something small but significant (possibly a drawing by the kidlet would be appropriate?) Anyway, what's wrong with a slab? VB might be a bit OTT though. A decent beer would be better! nagpants 1
The Japanese generally are well into present giving. Often my folks back home don't see the need to "go overboard" with presents to my Japanese family/friends, and I often feel that what is given and the way it is given is somehow not good enough. Whether my Japanese friends actually think that as well, I do not know. I'd say put some real thought into it and make sure it is nicely presented when you give it to them. grungy-gonads 54
Are you sending from overseas or giving while you are here?
snowbender 3
If you are still in Japan, get down to the local big gift shop and look around they usually have tons of stuff. They will wrap it up very nicely as well.
