kkk 7
I'm interested to know of problems or strange things people have experienced on going back to their home country after being in Japan for a long time. I remember last summer having an argument with my dad and he came back at me saying I had "become Japanese". He didn't realise how silly it sounded, but when I thought about it I have changed and when I am back 'home' I probably do act differently and in "Japan mode". Anyone any funny or interesting experiences?
Kumapix 0
get pissed off there are no oshibori (wet towels) at restaurants before your meal. Even worse, there's no sink to wash your hands in out in the eating area at mcdonalds!
Ocean11 0
I didn't talk to half my family for 5 years due to problems going 'home' that wasn't home anymore...
SKI 15
When I go back just for a few weeks esp at the beginning I find myself talking slow and almost childlike. Soon snap out of it though.
Davo 1
Ski,I kind of felt the same way at first when I went back this holiday. First day I went down to get my drivers license renewed and was surprised by how "in yer face" customer service was. Soon got used to it though. Projecting a direct, confident, slightly aggressive, yet friendly and familiar demeanor seems to be "the way" in NZ. It may be all good for an insider but I can see how it wouldn't go down well with visitors from overseas. Definately a world away from Japan.
