Just got back from the Clairvoyant and they said that Niseko United Ski/Snowboard area would be all time this year and everyone should head there. Nearby resorts will not get the same bottomless powder and will be very disappointing. See you in the best powder in the world as judged by industry proffesionals. Do not believe ski/snowboard guides who will charge you money to take you to an inferior resort (except for MikePow who actually teaches you some great techniques). Niseko is the best.

For the Summer Solstice on June 21st, we hiked Mt Yotei overnight to catch the sunrise from the summit on the longest day of the year. We hiked the Hirafu route, starting at about 11:30pm on the 20th, reaching the summit in about 3hrs15 or so. It was just getting light when we reached the crater rim We really lucked in with the weather. Clear skies above, and a sea of clouds hanging many hundreds of metres below us in the valleys. It was a very cold wait at the top for the sun to come up. We resorted to playing some music, jumping around and having a mini rave at the top to stay

Two of us are arriving in Hokkaido on March 22nd to do some ski touring for 8 days. We are interested in the Asahidake and Kurodake. I would appreciate any advice on staying / skiing in those two places from other backcountry / ski touring people who have been there. If you were going there, where would you ski? I suppose we could do both, but that takes travel time. Also, any thoughts on Tokachidake as a ski touring destination would be great to here. --scott

hokkaido Photos Of Yotei
seemore posted a topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Hi Guys Building a new home and getting into wallpaper has anyone got a great photo of Yotei in Black & white? Willing to pay -
This site has helped gather much inspiration for our trips over the last few years.. so figured it was time to contribute back. This is our 4th ski trip to the Hokkaido (consecutive years) and this year we’ve decided to rent a car and try get around to a few more resorts as we’ve loved the smaller/quieter resorts we’ve visited on previous trips. A little background. We are snowboarders....from Aus. Both reasonably competent and love the trees and off piste-- but we are not geared up or have the avalanche knowledge for any serious back country riding. So in resort of off piste or

Ideas please!!! I'm slightly injured… and the forecast looks woeful (read not good enough to make any pain worth while). So the question is…. what do you do in Hokkiado in winter if not snowboarding. Seriously, I've never thought about anything other than snowboarding here. So any suggestions would be welcome. We have a car are willing to drive around and have about 5 days to kill.
