  1. Actually, chalk boards are reasonably new, PCness required them to be other than black. I first taught with chalk on a blackboard, then tghey painted them all green and renamed them chalkboards. And, thanks TB - nice dinner, a bottle of good Oz red and a relaxing evening - What more could one want?
  2. Ta, scouser. Your location is given as "near enough Tokyo" I'm near enough, but not quite next door. Where you at? PM if you want.
  3. domo arrigato gozaimasu, Ewok2 san. Domo arrigato gozaimasu, everyone.
  4. Marbles, What are they?? What do you need them for? I gave up playing marbles in High School.
  5. Yeah, now eligible for discounted fares?? Have a discount for the January accom at Nozawa on the basis of age (me 'n' me mate are both 60, just, the +1s are a bit behind.) :woohoo:
  6. Nice legs, Oke. Out of interest, where did you get it from? Might get one for my knee. S'OK, I did a google and found the Oz distributor - Looks way fun!

  8. dude, agree fully. Defrag and cleanup are very much under utilised by the majority of users. Most of the maintenance calls I get with regard to "slow" computer have to do with unemptied recycle bin, a full cache, a temp directory that's chokka and badly fragmented drive. Spend a bit time clearing these things and the box works a lot better. BTW, my recycle is set to not keep anything. deleted files go straight into the bit bucket, Having done a bit of work with unix where rm (for remove) has NO undo, I am wary about deleting, but when I do, I mean it!
  9. Music Videos??? WTF, music is to LISTEN to. Video is to watch. Why the 2 are together is beyond me! Yep, I'm a BOF, but I listen to my music and do not need to watch the manufactured video that passes for music video. If I go to a show, I want to watch the performer as they perform, not a "light show" that hides the performer from the audienc
  10. Unless, as I do, you have to install the blardy thing, you will likely not notice too much problems. If you are totally hooked on XP (ummm, where were you when 3.1 was around?) you'll make the transition fairly easily. OTOH, if you find Xp a pain, Vista has at least as many problems, and possibly more if you count driver issues with printers. Whatever, the future is Vista and the developments therefrom, so get used to them. (Vista - distant view)

  14. Yep, in many businesses, new technology can only be purchased of there is a business case made out which shows at least a 6 fold return on the investment over the expected life of the equipment.
  15. Not 40 yet?? Geeze, I didn't even start skiing until I was about 5 months beyond my 49th birthday! I KNOW they will, I did! Youth is a terrible waste - so much to do and so little time!
  16. Nothing wrong with a nice thick pork chop, on the BBQ plate for a bit. Served with apple sauce and veges - Yuuummm O! Pork pies, though, are a different thing. I was under the impression that poms took their pies cold and their beer hot.
  17. Would have been a shorter list to give the bones that weren't broken/damaged! Sounds like he's on the road to recovery - and will have a story to tell in later years that few of us do (mind you, he's welcome to it!). Here's to a speedy recovery and a lot more skiing in future. Gotta give way to trees, is the point!
  18. Rob, Probably not - they'd be flat out looking for someone else to place the blame on instead of looking at their own behaviour. And, I don't think that sort of carry on is restricted to Aussies, and certainly not to Aussies in Japan. January, on Furano's Kitanomine Zone, a mate and I were standing off the centre of the run, facing each other with ski tips almost touching, having a breather and a bit of a yak! Without any warning, a DH on a board screamed through the gap between us, jumped the skis and kept going. It was not as if he couldn't have seen us, we were visible for fully 300
  19. It's a quite peculiar term to UK. (and their colonies). Refers, I think, to one Bobby Charlton - a soccer (sorry futball) player of some repute years back - who was able to dazzle the opposition with his ball control and footwork. He was considered a bit of a show-off in his time. Mind you, he'd be seen as a reclusive, almost talentless player these days. OK, how many's that?
  20. It's the old question of "I have a machine that does all I want it to, why should I upgrade?" The answer is an emphatic "You should not!" Whilever the machine does what you want, satisfactorily, at a decent speed and accurately, there is no need for an upgrade. However, when the box stops being effective, there are things to consider. 1. Does the new OS have operational problems. 2. Are there difficulties with the programs I use? 3. Can these diffciulties be overcome easily? OR will it cost too much? 4. costs Vs benefits? Analyse the costs of the changeover vs the cos

  22. You get your connection free? We have to pay! Still costs money - get a 'puter, have phone line connected, pay for access, pay for data flow - need I go on? Therefore WOFTAM.
  23. Egzachary! Mantas - my point precisely. A couple of days in places like Sapporo or Osaka will soon give you the idea how closely these people have to live, and to do that successfully, they have developed a "politeness and deference" process that many from Oz would find hard to get. Some of us, though, spend a bit of time trying to understand the language, the etiquette and the transport system. (That last is a wake-up call for a "boy from the bush" who can just about manage a 24 hour period in Sidonee IF he has to, but can't wait to be on the road back outa there!)
  24. You have GOT to be kidding! Macroshaft compensate people! Where do you people get your weird ideas from?
