  1. Cool sounds interesting. I havent been myself. I am acutally heading down to Oz for xmas and new years but if I wasnt I was gonna head skiing but I would imagine it would be packed. I think I will take a few days off in Feb to spend a weekend and maybe monday and tuesday at it.

Man the highschool work must be cool. What ages are the oldest girls 18? I would love to have been a teenager here in Japan!! Happy days. I plan to go to Hshima at some stage. May drop you a line and get some beers.

  2. My bro was saying to me that skiing trips to Japan from England are apparently getting more popular for something different. This is what he said. Anyways, it is good to have some expats there. I did most of the skiing in Alts last year, which was cool for beginning but to go there alone would not be so much fun. So I am looking for people to go with.

EBC What do you do up in Hakuba anyways? How long you been there?

BP must be a pain for you to come from Hiroshima? Thats like 8 hours from Tokyo alone. What you at over here?

  3. Where did you think of the name anyways?

It astounds you what you see here. I walked into this bar (hostess, I didnt know I swear) in some backwater town and it had NO FOREIGNERS ALLOWED written in English. I went in anyway just to be a d1ck. It worked, I looked like a d2ck.

Well do you have mushrooms in Scotland?? How many expats live in Hakuba area??? Who do you know well on the forum asides from Bettyx

  4. Nothing like a posh toff....German is rotten, even worse when you understand it! I never warmed to German birds whilst I lived there, apart from the ones I...ah...well dated..!! Hypocrite. Anyways, the French accent on a Japanese bird with an Irish mentality would be good. French accent sounds good, Japanese women are hot and I have good crack with Irish women (England, Scotland would be ok too).

  5. Mmmm sounds tasty. I would say oishi but dunno how to spell it in english...I will spit on him when I see him. Dunno who they are, I scedaddled when he started to shout and wave franticly!!! It was the first time I felt lonely here since I came back (2 months). Cannot stand narrow minded people.

Anyways EBC (I always go to write ECB but that is the european central bank), get the massagy massagy going and you will be grand in no time!! I am planning a trip before christmas, whats hakuba like? Maybe we could meet if I head up there. Would be good to get advice from a veteran!

  6. O11 I am pretty anti media, I dont like their sensationalism. However, if it works for the masses then let it be. I just feel that there could be enough people like me who despair and then do not come around to trying to make a difference, thats all.

Equally not saying I am smart, just different people process things different ways. I am way too liberal and sit on the fence, hows this, actually I am afraid thick f8ckers do not either get the message, or when they do they think I wont make any difference.

  7. Hey I am getting a car soon (this week) and as I am mainly getting it to go skiing I was wondering if FF 2WD is enough, or is 4WD the better solution?

I have the option of a Subaru Legacy which is 4WD or a Honda Stream (FF 2WD or 4WD)?

Which one would you pick (which car also???)?

  8. I wanna live out in the country it sounds so friendly. I moved into my apartment around the middle of October and you know as part of the ritual you buy presents for your neighbours (or at least thats what the gaijin are told)! So I bought some chocolates for the apartments either side of me. I knocked on the door and this dude answered and said something. I waited, rang again and then he came running out scooting me away from his front door. I nearly broke my neck into my apartment. I imagine he wasnt paying me compliments. I was so angry thinking the racist son of a...anyways I calmed down and decided to go to the next neighbour who simply said "no sank you" over the intercom. So I sulked some more and ate the chocolate.

Got over it in the end, I still love Japan and Japanese people, except for my racist neighbours of course who are probably korean?!?!? Haha.

Did any more fluid drain from the leg? Yuck sounds horrible.

  9. Mr. Wiggles the reason I am saying about alarmism in the media is that now when I am subjected to CNN and 'American morning' it constantly refers to global warming, which about 1 year ago would not get a mention. This is why. I am all for highlighting global warming but scaring people seems to cause despair.

When I was watching Al Gores movie, at the end I felt like saying f*ck it, I am going to buy an SUV and fly all I want as we are bolloxed anyways. However, I decided that 1 person makes a difference and that is why I get annoyed with myself when I leave things plugged in. In the UK if people turned off and plugged out appliances it would cut energy consumption by 8% and using energy efficient lightbulbs in the UK would reduce CO2 by 2.3m tonnes per year. Thats 18-21% of the Kyoto protocols agreement i.e. a significant amount.

Basically, help and not hysteria works. I sense some hysteria coming on, which just makes people fall into a sense of despair and not caring. Telling people about the negatives is a soundbite, but people need to know that every little helps.

  10. My plan is 3 out of 4 weekends with some Fridays and Mondays off. I am 182m (just touching 6Ft in imperial). I mean I could probably afford to buy or rent, that is not really the issue. I just dont wanna throw money away i.e. use the skis for 1/2 seasons and get too good for them. I dont plan to be a beginner all my life. I think though with boots they are real important.

I have fleeces etc, but I would like to get some of the quick dry stuff that sucks away all the moisture from your skin. I am not sure which ones to buy and how much they cost. I have been looking on the net but they dont really tell you what the clothes do. I know there is a nike one that footballers wear? Dunno if it would be any good though?

  11. Mooloney thats a first!!

Anyways lads I think it is time to leave this topic. Basically the facts are this. Global warming is an hypothesis based on the interpretation of data. Data is a series of measurements designed to prove (or disprove an hypothesis). GOOD SCIENTISTS will use data for the purpose intended, and if it disproves an hypothesis then they will accept that and try to formulate or reformulate their hypothesis. So far we have, geoligically speaking, a minute amount of data collected but the general consensus is that the data is telling the SCIENTITS (I mean scientists) that the globe is on an upward temperature trend.

Galileo in the 15C hypothesized that the earth orbited the sun and was chastised by the catholic church as it went against popular belief!

In those days people didnt want to believe Galileo, today maybe they would! Maybe people want to believe the hysterical mass media. Alas Galileo was proved right and his ideas formed the basis of modern science. Which side is correct now? No one can say. Which side do you want to believe? Take your pick. The only reality is, if we pick the wrong side for too long the delay could be catastrophic.

Anyways lets relax in the forum, we are all snow lovers here (and I apologise for the cliche) but we need to chill out......I sound like Arnie in the Batman and Robin movie.

  12. Yea I have been told that. There is this guy in work and he is apparently really good. He has been skiing for years and by all accounts the lads in work told me he knows his stuff. He said he would help me get a pair.

Anyways, I think he will bring me to some shop to see if I can get anything. So my question is how do you know a good fitter? I think though if he recommends him/her then they are probably good.

I have been thinking about that for the last while, whether to buy boots, skis or both. As I am starting off, I will need more clothing, proper gloves, goggles etc. as I went cheapo on them in Feb as I thought I wouldnt come back to Japan. Anyways there is lots to buy as it is! Alas, I use carving skis and toward the end of the season I used 1.86m (usually 1.76m) and I couldnt control the bastards!!! I was like bambi coming down the mountain!! Please dont laugh, I am just beginning.

Any advice on wiker t-shirts, socks, salupettes etc.?? Sorry for all the questions!!!

    Thanks for the advice.

  13. EBC what kinda boots would you recommend for a beginner (a very keen on at that)? I have been reading on the net about it and that you should try on the boots etc. for a while before you decide. But which ones are the best? I wont do jumps but speed is probably something I will try. I will rent the skis! I rented boots last winter as I thought it wouldnt make sense but then I went 6 times in 2.5 mths, 5 of them weekends so I am not making the same mistake again! Anyways ANY advice would be appreciated, and do not forget I started in February this year!!!

  14. I think at the end of the day it will take blatant catastrophe to convince all people. While there are people there will be people who doubt? This opens the debate and makes it healthy. Believing as we did in the catholic church in Ireland for so long, it lead to systematic abuse of childeren. With the internet people can have open debate on potentially one of the biggest problems to face mankind.

Lastly, my personal opinion is that we are contributing to global warming. That is just what I have chosen to believe based on what I know. But based on what people knew in 1933, there were people in America and the UK championing Hitler and his methods. We saw where that led. I am kinda writing and saying nothing. But basically the facts that I have read and understand seem compelling for me to believe. However, like any person who believes in science you have to be open to being wrong.

    I could be wrong!!

  15. Coldcat who controls the satellites? Also, why was it that the American government amended so many documents on Global which they commissioned. They replaced 'is' with 'might be' which creats doubt!!

Anyways they have their reasons for doing this but who knows? At the end of the day driving SUV's is wrong. They do not belong in a city. Their consumption is ridiculous. This is my personal view. But it is peoples free choice to ruin the air that pedestrians breathe.

In fairness GW is something that has been around since the late 80's and early 90's when oil was $5 a barrel so the incentive wasn't there then to create false reports supporting GW.

Also where is the information about the south pole getting colder, I would like to see it. I watched Al Gore's movie and it scared the hell out of me to be honest. I have started plugging out things and using as little energy as possible. It may be hulabaloo but if it is not at least I feel like I am doing my bit.

  16. Sounds good. I am really looking forward to the temps dropping in all of Japan. Love cold weather, kills all the bugs! What did the resort look like, does it have good potential?

I am new enough to a lot of places in Japan so I am trying to get around as many places as possible this year. ShigaKogen and Hakuba definitely on the list, but there are loads of places there as it is!

  17. Oh I completely agree. I am not saying that lying to people is good, what I am saying is that with hindsight in 100 years those lies, however misplaced today, could do some good!!! They lie to us anyways, maybe this time for a good end. The perfect example, in my opinion, was the dropping of the atomic bombs here in Japan. That so reviled people to the effect of a-bombs the positive hindsight effect is that there have been no bombs dropped on any country since then. 'MAD' (mutual assured destruction) as it was called was enough to stop people wanting to drop the bombs on each other knowing the obliterating effect.

Please don't mistake that comment as justifying what happened to Japan, I am not. But some crazy decisions now have effects far greater than their intended purposes.

  18. Ah onsen I could do with one of those but still needs to cool off here a little bit. I didnt intentionally plough into the girls it was just they got in my way and I couldnt stop. I did most skiing in Alts Bandai which is a good place to learn! But people had a habit of resting anywhere they wanted! I remember the last time I was skiing I was really motoring down the mountain! Defo going faster than I could probably control, next thing this bird just pulled up in front of me! I dunno how I missed her but I did! If I had to have hit her......ouch and would have been really messy. I got a real fright!

Anyways enjoy the onsen and look after the leg and I will catch you later on. Bout the parties, will be looking for those also!
