  1. Thats mad! I was watching a show there on NatGeo today about a tragedy in West Canada where 14 people were killed in 12 days. There was 7 school kids killed by an avalanche whilst they were doing cross country skiing. It was pretty terrible. The snow went down a valley and the valley turned to the right. Whilst it was turning it went up 120m on another slope (where the kids were) and took them all killing 7. They were 15. Reached speeds of 180km's! It was mad!

Thankfully I have never seen a bad accident with my own eyes. Dont really want to either! thumbsdown.gif

  2. holy god just looked up some ski lift falls on you tube! Then there was a video of 2 climbers who fell to their death! Pretty grim stuff!!

Thankfully I havent had any major issues getting off the lifts. What has happened to me is that my ski gets caught somehow and I fall over! My friends told me it looks so funny! I still now dont understand what happens, cos its happened 4 or 5 times. This is probably a que for this year to be a nightmare.

  3. Well if you argued about other things then there was probably something else wrong also, so I wouldnt regret it too much.

One time a last straw for me was constant complaining about her weight but doing nothing about it! She had put on some weight, which was ok but the constant complaining and eating a packet of tea cakes at 11pm made me say this1 isnt working!! Of course that was at the end of a lot of other issues! Hope that doesnt seem shallow!!!

  4. Mainly carve turns. Groomers up to now, moguls I've tried but will probably do more this season. Off-piste - again I will be a bit more adventerous this year.

What I am trying to improve is my technique. Toward the end of last season I was still struggling on black slopes especially turning quick enough and controlling speed. So I would end up getting a mouthful of snow! \:\) I am still learning but learning pretty fast. I still need some improvement on my carving!

I lack some knowledge of all the terminology for skiing! Up to now I have just put on the boots and skied!

  5. Size: 182cm

Weight: 88kg's but I have a target weight of 85kg

Ability: Intermediate (began skiing in Jan '06 but have done a heap load of skiing). I plan to do lots of skiing this winter and get a lot better!!!

Style: tips on how to answer this?

Preferences: I like to vary i.e. turns, speed etc. but not sure if that answers your question?!

  6. Hey just a quick question to any experts here on the forums: I went to buy my first skis (ever) yesterday and the dude in the shop recommended the following skis

Volkl AC3 skis were the recomendation (177 cms). Anyone got any advice?

The reviews I have read have been in the main positive, however there was one bad review. Any help will be appreciated.

  7. Had my 1st run today at Alts Bandai. It was snowing heavy there and there was a terrible wind! Anyways it was class. Was great to get back on the skis again and in the afternoon, after I shook of the many months inactivity, I put some decent runs in! \:D \:D

Anyone going Hakuba/Shiga at the weekend? Looking to go but no one to go with!!! \:o wakaranai.gif sadglass.gif

    Anyways let me know.

  8. Well I will be going with some friends who will be complete beginners. I am also fairly fresh to the skiing scene so hopefully this winter in Japan I can improve enough. Basically I would like some beginner and medium slopes, and judging from the threads, ones with good lift access.

It should be fun for beginners so they can learn without too much pain and also for the others with a little more experience to enjoy more challenging slopes. It seems like treble cone is the one to go for!!
