  1. Well that didnt quite work to plan. Back in Myoko after going to Seki where there was only one lift working, visibility was 10m on piste, it was super hard to pick features even in the trees and the place was tracked from yesterday Still we are all safe and well. Hopefully a pizza for lunch and a 1/2 day at Kanko. Had a taxi driver try and take us for an extra 4,000 for carrying out boards on a 4,800 fare. 1st time that I've known someone was trying to rip me off in Japan. Once the lady from the hotel came out that fee went away. Never had to pay that before. On the up side the kids who scor
  2. Roscoe sorry mate last min change of plans, going to see if we can jump the bus off to Seki Onsen with the Swedes will catch you tonight for a feed and beer? Let me know where you are staying and I'll come find you.
  3. Hey mate going to hang back this morning and see what happens hoping for more Probably just chill for a few hours at the hotel (Central) do some stretching, drink coffee etc. If you dont head out feel free to pop over, will email you mob number for sms. Otherwise will catch you guys tonight for dinner if you like.
  4. Not sure when it started snowing here at Myoko, checked at mid night and it hadnt apperaed to be any and doesnt look like much yet but its coming down now. Cortina was reporting 30cm at the base at 4am and pics from Hakuba over night looking promising so if thats the case those guys over there should have a cracker, looks like you may have got the bulk of it. Might be a late start here waiting on the snow, hopefully its just a tad late and we get the snow that was predicted overnight during the next 6 or so hours and it becomes a great arvo. Be safe folks - seeing lots of reports/FB po
  5. Because my post was edited by you with information deleted about where I had heard about the avie and then you posted your comments - not sure how I could assume anything else????
  6. So we cant share we saw information that is relevant to a discussion if its outside of SJF, David? I purposely didnt post a link nor did I mention a blog nor am I in anyway associated with the source of that info? Not sure how what I did is outside the rules????
  7. Sorry Neck saw that this morning on FB and havent heard anything more.
  8. LOTS of signs up at the moment. Not sure if that is normal. Seems to be plenty of places to ride without breaking too many rules too. Im so wary of terrain traps and other risks there's a heap of places I haven't dropped into yet and its good getting to know the place instead of bouncing around the resorts which was the original plan. Found a nice new to me line from the gondy today which was short but fun, above the champion run that does that hard skiers left and heads to the quad with that nice long flat bit that Im starting to make You end up dropping into that just before the corner.
  9. Wow are they lit up like that every night or just on special occassions?
  10. Epic morning at Kanko. No crowds, heaps of (relatively) safe pow to be snatched although got into some minor bother that was relatively easy to get myself out of. Patrol were taking passes apparently but missed me. Love just smashing out 1/2 days with no breaks, just lapping and putting together great little runs before the legs get too sore and building fitness. Sorry no pics as riding by myself.
  11. Hit a tree yesterday, head smacked it, not super hard but noticeable and in a beanie it would have hurt but stoked to have the helmet on. I was indecisive re which line to take, ended up taking the middle which was the tree . Its great for clipping those small branches too when its tight. Only wish the backpack didnt catch sometimes
  12. BM thats appalling! I try and be as helpful as possible as others have been so nice to me although after an incident in the street just now I'm no longer stopping to help any male Australian under 40 no matter how much they are struggling. Arrrogant losers who think they are in Thredbo. You should have to do a course and pass it before coming here. Edit: Now that I've chilled out a bit I have met MANY great poeple on my trips here now with a large chunk of them being Aussies. We are not all the same and the good ones out number the bad ones.
  13. For those that dont know, one of my nick names is "Lucky Pete" - Im seriously one of the luckiest people to walk the planet so Im glad some of that can deliever for others. :) Stoked when I just looked at the 6 day Forecast. If it delievers, next weekend should be a cracker too Ippy. Only 4 days away.... Tomorrow looks OK too
  14. Wow what a cool vid. Its great how creative people are getting with the GoPros. Thanks for posting Kokodoko!
  15. Thanks mate, appreciate the input. Any suggestions for the morn? Besides the stretching which will be tonight and the morning This place is emptying out quickly, with all the snow I'd be thinking it will be a LONG trip home for some folks.
  16. Wow what a morning. It was and is PUKING. Plan was 1st lifts at Seki Onsen but.......Started really poorly with a mix up with a bus that exists but then doesnt but really does. Walked to Kanko instead for 1st lifts. Didnt look after my goggles and fogged the crap outa them. 1st runs wasnt in the groove and started to sulk. Lifties let me use their heater and were stoked with the little koalas I gave them. Then found the little area I was looking for and it was LUX. Fair bit of hiking courtesy of that lovely Japanese trait of having uphill sections and riding into an area that seemed flatter th
  17. Its puking in Myoko right now and has snowed all night by the looks of it. Could be a fun a day. :)
  18. Really sad to say this but from what I have been seeing this trip soon we are going to see a/multiple Aussies killed in the BC in Japan. :( No comprehension at all re the risks being taken (Im no expert but can see basic issues) and no prepraration and a LOT of arrogance. Sure 9/10 times it will be fine but these guys think having done the gates at Niseko or a season at Threadbo think they are Jeremy Jones (without the back pack). Not to mention their behaviour in the hotels and bars. Tried to help a guy tonight order drinks and got a sharp rebute "Ive got it MATE" when clearly he was stru
  19. Geared up and went out at mid day. Wanted to get used to ridng with my pack etc. Ended up having a really nice lunch with a young Japanese couple which was cool. Ridimg itself was really average, at one stage vis went to about 15m. Sitting in the hotel now and there is a group of Aussies that just arrived this arvo and went out and hiked, riding in the BC with one group even getting stuck. No avie gear at all. A lot of young Japanese hiking the peak with no gear too.
  20. Its cool Ippy, didnt sleep in just chilling as worked solid 13+ hour days for over two weeks prior to getting here so relaxing is part of my holiday and what I have chosen to do this morning. I have two weeks so no real rush and have just spent some quality time setting up my avie beacon etc. Time well spent as looking at doing a back country tour later in the week, maybe even the cat. Looking forward to reading your report from today as may pop over there during the week. Update: Crowds at Suginohara are massive. Hope all that have driven/bus/train out arent getting swamped.
  21. Cunning plan implementation for the day. Waiting to lunch then doing a 1/2 day in the hope it starts snowing and everyone is eating. Process could be driven by being smart or a tad over indulgent in an izakaya last night
