Hi, I am planning on taking a trip out next week (Jan 5th) from Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am hoping that it won't be too crowded straight after the New Year's holiday and also since I will be starting on the Thursday, there should be some places available. Any suggestions as to where would be a good place to go (not Hokkaido since I am planning on going there twice later in the season)? Also, any recommendations on travel agents in Tokyo who are good at these sort of things? Thanks, S.r.

Yep sure did...to Kagura..great snow but too cold and windy to enjoy it today.

Just got back from Kagura....boy what a day!!! I had prayed to the snow gods for good snow this weekend but I guess I prayed too hard? It was snowing the entire day and it was windy and had blizzard like conditions. They had to close the upper gondola around 2 pm because it was so windy. Anyway, the snow was good but it was too cold and too windy to enjoy it. If it is sunny tomorrow or on Wednesday the snow conditions should be fantastic.

The latest report says to expect between 30-60 cm of snow tonight at Kagura!!! I hope that is true because already got my Shinkansen tickets at 7:00 AM from Tokyo!

Thanks for the update!!! I am really looking forward to starting off the season with some good snow tomorrow.

I hope we get tons of snow today...going off to Kagura in Yuzawa tomorrow.
