  1. My garden had turned into something of a jungle after 3 weeks away!

Lots of the weeds were 30cm above ground and some them had over 50cm 'worm-like' things going on underground as well.

    They were very kimochi warui!

Flowers survived and grew more bushy.

    Trees seem ok too.

Actually just one or two very small new leaves seem to have appeared, this is the first sign of recovery after being rudely taken from previous home to our garden. Gambare!

Got it mostly cleared now though and looking something like again.

  2. Well. Did some more weeding early this morning. Tons popped up again!

Last for maybe 3 weeks or so. Will be...er, fun, to find out what things look like when we get back.

I have bought a simple water sprinkling system that will give our trees and flower beds a dose of water every morning and evening which will hopefully keep them all genki.

Thinking 5 minutes at 6am and 5 minutes at 7pm.

  3. We have been to a few meetings but I haven't done anything like that yet.

    Haven't been asked.

Get on fairly well with neighbours and seen out and about more. My Japanese is pretty good so when people do talk they seem to relax pretty quick.

I suppose not having kids means we have avoided a few things too.

I did make it clear to the guys at the meetings though that I'm happy to take part in stuff and just to ask*. I suppose it might just take a bit of time before people get settled in with the idea of me around.

(* sort of hoping that didn't mean tons of early morning stuff. A few times a year maybe... ;) )

  4. Back to the flowers though. I find it fascinating watching them from day to day.

I might even start talking to them!

Our momiji still seems to be in a bit of shock, but garden guy told us it will take a while for her to get used to new home and all is good. Just need to give her a bit of time to settle in proper.

  5. Yeah we were planning on having one area with flowers but it seemed too much - lots of other space for them - so we did a nice gravel thing, with a weed sheet under of course. Still they are popping up around the sides.

I find it amazing how some of them seemingly appear overnight and not just a bit but 10cm. Mad fast!
