  1. We have a nice new intercom system in the house so we can see clearly who is at the door before answering it. I can't decide whether to scan him out an ignore or just answer and try to tell him to go away. Or pay. I don't want Ms DumStick to speak with him because she would probably quite easily go along with it.
  2. Thanks Metabo. Actually we (esp. my lady) do probably watch NHK more than most other stuff, but I just wanted to know what the situation is here. Like I said, this blokes attitude and actions have just annoyed me big time. Being extremely tired has not helped. He has made me more inclined to not want to pay if I don't actually need to.
  3. We moved into our house yesterday. Some bloke 'from the NHK' came round literally as we closed the door asking for cash. Told him to go away are our heads were exploding and we were as tired as a person could be and were unable to talk. The git just came back just now. Who are these people? Do they lie waiting to pounce? Are they NHK employees or do-goody neighbourhood people commissioned by NHK to ambush newcomers? I'd have much more patience if they came round a bit after we had moved in, and not come back the next day when we were clearly moving in yesterday. As it is, h
  4. My lady likes getting them, not as keen on writing them as there are a couple of hundred. It is a good way to keep in touch (with friends and 'enemies') though. And keen an eye on changing addresses!
  5. One funny thing I noticed while our house was being built that I think 100% of the guys who came to work on it... smoked. Lets think how many there were over the time: Concrete related - 8 Carpenters - 3 Electricitians - 2 Water related - 2 Foreman - 1 Others that I can think of - 4 Actually I don't think the salesman smokes. Oh yes, two women actually... curiously involved with installing the boiler. I don't know if they smoked.
  6. Was exhaused last night but ended the day with 2 bottles of the Kirin Classic. Great beer, really knocked me out!
  7. A really cool thing about this I have just found out about this LAN network is... I can watch programs that I have recorded on the skyperfect hdd in the living room, on my tv in the bedroom. Cool! Shared computer stuff is good too. Like it.
  8. Actually not the same, we are talking about wired LAN network, not wifi....
  9. I can't really tell much difference. Then again, my other half can't work out Heinz Tomato Ketchup with some crappy stuff from here. Or good cheese. Or chocolate. Which I find odd.
  10. Our apartment agreement expires this coming Monday, so it's a final rush to get things over there this weekend. Can't wait until next weekend..... tired!
  11. Mine is actually called a "switching hub" I believe....
  12. For anyone else who might be interested.... works great right from the go. Network extended, new connections! I can have my telly, sky perfect and dvd player all plugged in. Quite why I need that, I'm not so sure, but
  13. Thanks. I think I will try that, sounds like it would definitely be worth it.
  14. You need to find a way to watch whilst sleeping.
  15. Can anyone help? I'm trying to get my head round this. Here's my setup Internet into house > NTT box > Apple Time Machine Wifi > LAN switching hub Wired LAN cables (cat 6) connecting in from around the house to the LAN switching hub. Works good. Problem! There is one LAN connection point in the house where I'd ideally like there to be another one in the same place. Is there any gizmo I can buy that allows me to make that one LAN connection into two (that I can use simultaneaously)? If so, what is said gizmo? Does that even make sense? Thanks.
  16. To get my cashback, I need: 3 different phone calls, one this month to cancel about 4 NTT services that I had to sign up for but can cancel within a week, one in November and one in December; Take receipt of a tuner that I know I don't want, and the people who send it know I don't want. Actually set the thing up to 'register' it. Then cancel it (in December). Pay 3150 yen for the shits and giggles involved. Probably some other "fannying about". As I said, it's just ridiculous. It'll be a 4 man or whatever it is well earned.
  17. Anyone recently had the fun experience of signing up for internet? Bloody hecks. There's a cashback thing going on but they make it so bloody complicated, long winded and annoying that I reckon most people just give up. You have to sign up for alll sorts of nonsense that you don't want, and then cancel them one by one..... often at different times (I can't cancel Hikari TV until November, for example). I even have to receive a Hikari TV box (?) and then send it back. Even though I know I don't want it. Oh yes and I must pay at least 3150 yen for that. Though the bigger sum I ge
