  1. OK, we have 200 SnowJapan stickers here and would like to offer them to Forums members.

    Here's how to go about get them:

    1

    Either send me a PM or if you do not have access to PMs please email us at editor@snowjapan.com with the subject line "SJ Stickers Please". (If you are emailing us, tell us your SJ Forums member name). We will reply to you with our postal address.

    2

    Get an envelope (preferably Number 3 size - the width of just more than a piece of A4 folded into three);

    3

    Write your address (or an address within Japan) on it;

    4

    Put a 90 yen stamp on it;

    5

    Put the stampled envelope into another envelope and send it to us at the address we tell you.

    >>

    The first 100 people to do this get 2 stickers each.

    >>

    If you are not yet registered to the Forums, please register and then do the above.

    Thank you!

    No, I don't, thank you.

    This folks is a fine example of

    a) why we need to approve new members before they post (although even then it didn't help much here did it?)

    B) why we don't allow PMs from the off;

    c) some of the junk that we have to deal with on an almost daily basis;

    d) a taste of what the Forums might be like if we let anyone post anything.

    Roger_R here signed up and was approved a short while ago and then posted the above 2 sentences linked up to his spam site. He more likely than not had no intention of posting anything else on the Forums. Looking at the pages that he viewed backs this up - he arrived, posted his spam and then left. He probably won't even know that this has been edited, as he will more than likely be off to annoy some other forums to post his junk.

    I thought I would just leave it here as an example. (Without the junk links of course).

    Very annoying.

    (Thanks to the few people who immediately let us know about it, appreciate your support).

    I think the nozawa-ski-school.html page should be changed to say they will only guarantee an English lesson if a private lesson is booked.

    If you find what you think are mistakes in any information on our site, please send us your comments suggestions directly. This is a public forum and posting here does not guarantee that we (the people who run the forums/site) see your message. Contacting us directly does. If we don't see your message, we won't be on the case. Thank you.

    I think SJ#1 (correct me if I'm wrong) did point out that those hired to do marketing for resorts often have no qualifications or experience.

    Yes he said that Go Native, and it is true though I am not personally involved in that kind of thing. He should know, I'd guess that he probably knows more (managers at) Japanese ski resorts than any other gaijin and he has a very positive relationships with quite a lot of Japanese ski resorts and actively gets involved in resort associations etc. The fact that he started this site and continues to develop it so actively every year and try to do what he (or "SJ") can do to open up Japan winter sports to the outside world says a lot.
  5. OK things should be pretty much back to normal now both on the forums and the site. In fact we have taken the opportunity to make a few adjustments that optimize the database server, so things should be improved.

    Over the last 24 hours there has been over three times the amount of normal traffic to the site/forums - as far as we can currently tell this is only partly due to a few overseas promotional things we have been doing. We're still looking into other reasons for the rather unexpectedly high traffic today which put a large load on the server.

    Thanks and sorry for the disruption today.
