Quick question. Should my base wax be for a lower or higher temperature than my top wax? At the moment I'm using gallium purple (-4~+3) but I think I'm gonna go to a blue (-12~-3) so is the purple ok for a base coat? or should I buy the blue extra base wax?

I had Burton approach mitts last season, they were shredded after about a month. No Good.. This year I splashed out ￥12k on rakuten for Burton Gondy mitts. They're a mix of leather and goretex and I haven't got wet once, but my hands get sweaty on warm days. They came with some waterproofing wax which I've used once when the leather seemed to be getting damp. I'll probably give them another coat of the wax at the end of this month which should keep them dry til the end of the season. Damage-wise they're still good as new after almost 30 days on the mountain. I'd expect another 2-3 seasons

Coming from southern Aus I lived too far away from any mountains to even think about going to the snow regularly. I always surfed with my dad and skated a bit with my friends but always wanted to see what the snow was all about. Finished high school, got my first decent tax return and spent it on a ten day trip to NZ. Picked up the basics of snowboarding and the bug. Two years later got in another few days at Hakuba. Now on my second season boarding up here in Iwate, been 23 days so far this season, trying to get in 50 days.

Not Nagano, but Aizu Kogen Nango, in Fukushima. Though if you are driving via the Tohoku Expressway from Iwate, Hunter Mtn is actually a bit quicker to get to. Ah misread that, my bad. Will check out the site and the distances. Cheers I'll check out the super pipe too, I'm not that super so it might be a bit big.

Cheers for the info. Nagano is a bit far from Iwate for a weekend trip. I just checked the JSBA tournament schedule and in March they have a few half pipe events in Fukushima and Yamagata, hopefully those pipes are open to the public before/after the tournaments.

Fukushima seems to be the go..How about places with good quarters then? I did hear a small resort in Akita has a half but I can't remember which one? I was at Jangle Jungle, Yamagata on the weekend and there was kind-of a mini, natural bank/half thing. It wasn't very fun.

Did a search but couldn't find any recent info so starting a new thread, I hope you don't mind Just wondering if anyone can help me work out where there are half pipes in Tohoku. I've never tried one before and keen to give it a go. Going up the sides of the runs at Appi isn't satisfying enough. I think there's one at Nekoma, Fukushima? Can anyone help me out here?

I had a similar gouge last year. I repaired it with the p-tex candle as others described, however due to the width and depth of the hole the repair fell out after a few days on the mountain. Got it to stay in on the third repair after giving it a thorough clean with a wire brush to remove the debris and a good sand. I also used a razor to smooth the edges of the gouge and warmed the board up in front of a heater before i did it so the p-tex didn't cool too quickly and crack.
