  1. Can I prematurely guess Tsugaiki Kogen for whatever "Tsugaiki Kogen" is going to post?
  2. Or at least tell me a bit about your trip maybe in another thread.
  3. If you haven't already TRIP REPORT PLEASE!!!! I've been thinking about going up there for years! If you already have written one, link please!
  4. Yes. That took all of 9 minutes You get to post the next photo Bushiman!
  5. Alright, which skijo is pictured in this photo? The picture was taken at between 10x and 12x zoom.
  6. Never been, but I knew it wasn't Tenjin and I figured only the alps or some other granite formation could have that kind of terrain (especially the background) Happo was just a lucky guess. I was also thinking it might be a Muika photo I'll make sure the next one is not so he can guess too!
  7. I've always gone on weekends. My work really doesn't allow for anything else. The gondola has always been slow but I think maybe they run more cars? Not really sure because I've never been on a weekday but I've never waited for 10 minutes. It has also never been that busy on weekends compared to Kawaba or Kagura which can be packed.
  8. They should really at least have a foot bath and some magazines for you while you wait. Were they still displaying art? Last year they had a big painting on the wall presumably for something to stare at while you wait.
  9. But some of your pics were from the gondola, right? Let's go with excruciatingly slow gondola...... with a great view
  10. Nice views. Took me maybe 1.5 hours to the pipe. I went a little farther so I am not 100% sure. I don't know if you can call it a hike, more of a rock scramble. It was fairly difficult. Better to go with someone. It wouldn't be the best place to twist an ankle.
  11. I'm so bad with course names. Does Tenjin have an English map? I can read "ta" "something I can't read" "sawa" (or zawa) course. The one that goes off from the top of the number two lift. It also says expert course. On the far left of the course map on their website.
  12. I just realized I didn't answer your question. You get there from Tanigawa Onsen. There is also a skijo in the valley "White Valley" I just looked on google maps and it is the 252. There is a trail for a while that just dead ends at a nice natural pool in the creek. From there it's a rock scramble.
  13. I think it was summer so no snow. It is really wild down there I keep hallucinating bears ever time I heard a rustling in the bushes. Really cool area Tanigawa. Have you been to Ichinokurasawa? It's the valley you can walk to from the Tenjin parking lot. Really spectacular valley, lots of photo opportunities
  14. I think your AV pics are a good enough reminder to stay away when the bottom run is closed. I have never seen an avalanche happening at Tenjin but I did see one after it finished the first time I ever went (also first experience at a skijo in Japan). I had been riding the bottom course all day and one time when coming up the gondola the course was wiped out. I probably should just go to Tenjin for the views.........
  15. I think the problem is people think of Tenjindaira as a "skijo". Just think of it as a slow gondola leading to a couple of short lifts that accesses some amazing slack country, off-piste and winter mountain climbing opportunities that has the added benefit of having some amazing view. I should also mention the slack country and off-piste is all depended on whether the descending course is open. If not the AV danger is too high and they would probably not appreciate you trying it. I have had some amazing runs in my life but I would say dropping in to one of the chutes leading away from the
  16. It's as good as I've ever seen. The whole resort is pretty much still ridable but some runs aren't lit so it presents a unique challenge. Not the best angle for the sunset but the view of Tanigawa with the last rays of light as well as Shibutsu in Oze is pretty nice.
  17. I'm pretty sure your right. I walked out there when I first came to Japan. There is no trail and I was pretty much climbing boulders in the stream bed for most of the way up. They must have used helicopters when building it. That thing is maybe 15 to 20 meters tall and you could hear the air rushing out of it. At the time I had no idea what it was. It kind of made me nervous
  18. I was driving to Okutone for some after work nighta and wondered if you might have been/were up at Tenjin. I guess the answer was yes! Not quite the same but I at least got to see Tanigawa before the sunset. Not as impressive but Okutone gives you an interesting angle. Beautiful set of pics as always!
  19. Wow. That is terrifying and at the same time beautiful. Thank you for the amazing read.
  20. There are somethings I don't like about Tenjin but the views definitely outweigh the negative. I'll probably also be back there this year on a nice bluebird day
