  1. Took a look at the Ryuo official blog to see if they had an explanation for the crowds, and it looks like they were quite surprised, too.

They even mentioned the hordes lined up on the Kiotoshi course that you mentioned.

(Think I risked diabetes reading it, though. Enough sugary emoticons?)

This makes me hopeful for next Saturday. Thank you for the hard work ;) Maybe it was just a fluke.

  2. Thanks GB.

On today's evidence though, I would stay well clear on a holiday.

I'm just not used to queues at all. Ropeway queues are the worst kind too, not moving for 20 minutes, miss that one wait another 20 minutes, just standing there like a lemon.

    Shock to the system.

Unfortunately I'm committed to going this Saturday (hotel reservation, happy to get out of the house wife etc.) I'll maybe try to eat around 10 am and ride during everyones lunch. I think the ropeway is always every 20 but I hope I'm wrong

  3. All depends on the conditions....

What do you think Gunma Boarder? Did Iwakura get a reasonable amount of snow this week?

Also, earlier this week, people were complaining in Hakuba of 'dust-on-crust'.... Would you know if a hard ice-crust has formed at Iwakura during the mild (rain) period? Last weekend was good though, yeah?

Trying to move these conversations over to my new amazing thread ;)

I would guess Iwakura got enough snow to fix what happened last weekend. It might in fact be really good. If I had to guess I would say 30 - 40 cm of fresh snow but that is just a guess based on the Minakami Now report. I have to admit if I had Tuesday off I would consider going then. It looks like a good bit more snow is going to fall between now and then. Wish I could get Tuesday off.......

Keep me posted on my spectacular new thread

  4. I've seen Seki in summer. Only reason I would pick Seki is because I like the hot spring a lot and my family could watch me snowboard from the ryokan across the street! The snow fall numbers are also pretty insane. Other than that I will look into Suginohara and Akakura Kanko (which I assume is the same as Akakan). Thanks for the info :friend:

  5. Not BC but off piste......being on my own today and the amount of wind yesterday, I'm just thinking about the bowls at Teine.....They are short but quite steep and I've seen debris sitting in the bottom of them before.....I

I'm going to put on my parent cap for a second. If the av risk might be high why risk it? Doing tricks and wall riding is definitely not as fun for me as riding powder but I have been learning for days when venturing off piste might be more dangerous than usual. Hit some side trail stuff and find some fun jumps to hit if the risk is too high especially if you are alone. Also maybe ask someone at the resort?
