Wanted: Winter Stoke!
MagSeven replied to Mick Rich's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Looks like there's a bit in the forecast. At least as there's still some snow up on the ski jos, the new snow won't be falling straight onto bare ground. Hopefully it builds up enough through this week to open things up. I'm hoping to be up at Teine on Saturday...... -

Hmmm the one with the Buddha? Could that be Ashibetsu with the white statue? But that is west of Furano. Anyway, it's certainly nowhere between Asahikawa and Furano. Hint - I reckon it's somewhere alot of people see, but probably don't pay much attention to. -

It is a tiny Hokkaido place. But it's not Minami Furano (or any of the Furanos). There are a couple of clues in the photo... -

To go pro or not to go pro
MagSeven replied to pdoull's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I definitely rate the go pro. Very easy to just chuck in your pocket and forget about it, then pull it out when something's worth filming. The buttons are big and very simple so no need to take your gloves off. Take some footage or a photo, back in the pocket and off you go again. I use it much more from my hand or a pole to film others than I do for POV footage from a head mount though. I think going round with it on your head all day filming everything is a bit dull! It's waterproof, shockproof and good value for the quality of picture. It also makes a great travel camera. -

Scored some turns this morning before work. Boot deep, but with a nasty crust. Still, lots of fun. I'm stoked. -

Seems like that dusting we got yesterday was just a taster for what's to come. This morning we had 35cm + after some good snowfall last night. I'll be getting some turns in tomorrow morning if this keeps up! -

ありがとう! That's when Teine and Rusutsu are opening. There's a chance Nakayama Touge and Kokusai might open this coming weekend, but there's a bit of rain and warm weather in the forecast for Fri-Sun. -

This is the important part. I don't care if it snows in the city or the flat areas, as long as the mountains get pounded! There's a big circle on the 23rd in my diary, I'm counting the days.
