  1. yeah, most people say its a two week to 6 week recovery. Couldnt have honestly happened at a better time of the season (well, last day of the season might have been okay too). Its not so bad, my only real worry is that it turns me into a bit of a cautious wuss when i get back on the slopes, given that this season really feels like its mischief time. The pain isnt so bad. Only really hurts when i sneeze or cough. The rest of the time its just a mild discomfort that i barely notice unless i move my arm about. Its actually not that bad
  2. October 30th. Ipps catches a front edge on an indoor slope and breaks his rib. The broken rib is as yet undiagnosed, but its 6 days and its not exactly healing I claim the first "snow" inflicted injury of the season! And id like to thank my mate ty for saying "shall we make this the last run?" right before it happened. Never call last run. Iron law of the universe.
  3. ill try and get it finished, but i reckon ill have to restart the thread and obviously make sure my alterations from my first edit will carry over to here. Might try and sort it soonish though, i reckon ive had almost enough time without never looking at it again Not quite though, i still think i need about another month
  4. i hated those stupid monkeys. I went there last year, not ONE of them was pooping on another ones head in the onsen as i had been led to believe they would. The babies were crazy and awesome, but we couldnt go near them and the onsen was man made and the monkeys didnt give a crap, they literally walked around like they owned the place! WELL YOU DONT MONKEYS!!! It wasnt a monkey i paid money in the ticket booth to come watch you do nothing ill have you know! (unless of course he was one of your human slaves). wait... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you al
  5. Happo1. Maybe my 5th or 6th day ever riding. Arrived on one of those tour buses from shizuoka, barely slept. pummeled up to the gondola, the lifty said "im jealous of your guys up there today, have a good one", i honestly replied "why?" and emerged into this sea of white. At first i HATED it. I couldnt see where i was going, there were no markers, and the one run i thought we could do some dude said "i wouldnt go that way, theres cliffs and youll likely fall to your death if you cant ride well". I now realise in hindsight, the dude was a prick. Anyway, no choice but to run the mens
  6. haha, dude, you can go with whatever deck you like, its a guide to help you make sure you are choosing it for the right reasons is all. If you want to bomb nice big lines then you just got the board you want Dont you worry about a thing. I mean er, oh no, that just wont do. that deck will absolutely destroy you! youll be lucky if you make it off the mountain in one piece. Tell you what, ill never forgive myself, so ill take it off your hands for $50 and you can go buy something a little safer
  7. i have to buy online. I got no choice in that in truth since even wandering aroudn seoul my options seem to be restricted to massively expensive burton or endeavour boards. If i want capita or bataleon (as i do), then im out of luck Its pretty much fine, but consider 1. Export restrictions. You wont for instance, find many people outside craigslist or ebay willing to ship a board direct outside of the online sites domestic market. 2. following on from this, you CAN use mail forward companies, but consider how this impacts warrantying an item if you need to. 3. Import du
  8. PS. Went to ride in the indoor slope near seoul this weekend. On my nice rocker, ended up catching front edge after front edge. Proving that although i talk a good game, i still actually suck on a snowboard. (in my defence, i caught more front edges in that 1 four hour session than i did in the whole of last year, so i blame the weird indoor snow ). also feel like i cracked my ribs. It still hurts 3 days later and it bloody kills when i cough. Oh and no air bag up, so couldnt do all those somersaults i was obviously planning on doing in my mind
  9. ah the point was to make a distinction between the two terms and retain it so that people didnt get confused by the language. So your setback is something related to the actual physical properties of the board (a board with a 4cm steback means that if you put the bindings in the same middle holes in your inserts, the nose to the front binding would be 4cms longer than then the tail to the rear bindings. But offsetting it 2cms (putting your bindings 2cms forward towards the nose), would result in a centered stance (offsetting the setback). if i used the expression "setting back" an
  10. STEP 9. LINKS + GLOSSARY Jargon Watch: Section by Section The aim of this section is to give you a breakdown (and reminder) of some of the key terms used in this guide. These terms are organised according to sections rather than alphabetically. The secondary terms round out most of the discussions, and although they aren't essential to it, they are obviously nice to know. They maybe crop up several times in different parts of the guide and offer a quick and handy reference guide if some of the language is tripping you up. Key Terms: Quote: Section 1: - Freestyle board:F
  11. KK, might as well add the glossary, 2 secs while i sort it all out There are also links in the sierra/trusnow version, but i think its best not to set the precedent by bringing them here (plus theyre hardly essential stuff). Its nice having a site without hotlinking in truth
  12. for the sake of a pure challenge and just for the absurdity of someone who's never ever sat on a pair of skis explaining skiing to people who spend 50 days a year on the slopes, it might be fun. But i think its best left to people who know what theyre talking about if im honest. I mean in truth, its just a case of reading a few articles and digesting the information (then explaining how its applied - which yuou can also work out by reading how *other people* applied it) so realistically anyone could do it. But its probably still better coming from a skier though
  13. thems some fantastic pictures mate. Who knew scotland was pretty all i saw were fields of sheep
  14. it looks gorgeous, but i aint dropping a small mortgage on a snowboard quite yet I reckon $400 is about my limit (even if collectively they end up costing me a mint because i cant seem to stop buying them).
  15. theres a 08/09 jam 163 iirc dirt cheap on craigslist ($175) you could probably throw out 150 and get it i reckons

  17. Snowboarding tech has definitely been on a drive to sell lots more decks by convincing us we all need a quiver (we don't dammit! (says the dude with three capita sticks and trying to find a riot to add to the collection)). If there's one message i would LOVE to put in massive bold letters throughout the guide (and tried to mention it in the intro... which er you can find on page 7 ), is that YOU DON'T NEED A NEW BOARD!!! THE ONE YOU'VE GOT IS PROBABLY FINE!!! But its that 'probably' that lets in the demons! As i said, you can do anything on any deck at all, its just some decks are going t

  19. I think its really the rocker and taper on it thats making it pretty pow specific. 20mm taper is pretty heavy and about the same as on the malolo if i remember right. In fact almost everything is the same except the malolo is s-rocker, and charlie is pow-fk (zero camber but rocker at nose). I reckon as i say, youd need some serious force on the wrong side of your bindings to push either of those noses into the snow, whereas centered on a big camber deck its going to lock in more because of the front contacts, youll have less chance of it bobbling over nobbly bits (FK flies over bobbles in the
  20. i wish i could tell you Probably just gonna run centered on it though, the float is going to blow my mind i suspect anyway. First time on a real genuine powder deck so i think ill save it for a real powder day. I know for sure though i'll be bringing it to japan (i doubt ill even break it out in korea unless something really shocking happens this year). Ah well, i discovered an indoor place in bucheon near seoul the other week, so ill head up there next saturday and see how it is. The place also has a nice kicker with an airbag, so it's going to be like christmas for me! I wish i
  21. h**p://www.snowboardingforum.com/buy-sell-snowboard-equipment/27196-bataleon-jam-161w.html (hotlink killed) $245 shipped to your proxy forwarder... Maybe comes to 370 pre import tax or thereabouts? Oh, and got a reply from evo finally. The reason they dick around so much is because they do all the brokering at customs for import. So you wont have duty to pay. Seems a bit off if you ask me, but the bill for shipping the 157 project green was $143 for me (probably different for japan since i assume they have different tariffs - its 20% on TOTAL (shipping + item) cost in korea on anythi
  22. yeah, its a pain in the ass. I cant honestly believe they havent got back to me yet. Remind them gently that you would have bought it but they put that roadblock in the way, so maybe they could possibly sort of cut you some slack since you did technically beat the deadline. Ive had it sitting waiting since yesterday. Definitely considering it. The site with the riot i ordered seems a wee bit dodgy, so im not paying for a thing unless i can carry it out of the store myself. This one may in fact be my big alternative after all
  23. actually tubby, now i think about it they still havent got back to me about the shipping. I actually forgot about that. Maybe you have to wait for them to send you a quote before you can order but lame in truth. Most other sites will give you a quote immediately without all this mucking about. Schnee, this is just evo being rubbish. It applies to their entire range rather than just select brands with vendor agreements (burton/k2/oakley et al). I think its an anti-fraud mechanism more than likely. The big brunt of fraudulent purchases come from international buyers, so theyve put a littl
