Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 339cm Posted on Wednesday 1st April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here. Good morning from Hakuba. A fine "sea of clouds" early today. There is a lot of cloud around early on today. Thankfully it's not wet this morning but there's some limited visibility in places. The base Nakiyama run is now closed at Happo-one, so you can no longer ski or board back down to base. Take the gondola! Tsugaike is also now only part open - see the details below, including the dates of planned operation for the top Ropeway. I have some personal issues to take care of away from Hakuba today and tomorrow - my next report will be on Friday. By then we should be back to sunny skies. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Official snow depth: Top: 185cm Top: 25cm Current status and planned closing date: Toomi and Alpsdaira sections open (Champion Expert course not available) You can still ski back down to base Iimori section closed Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Official snow depth: Top: 195cm Base: 40cm Current status: Open as normal You can still ski back down to base Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobishi (1680m): 140cm Usagidaira (1400m): 64cm Nakiyama (800m): 25cm (just on the bit that is still open; 0cm on either side) Current status and planned closing date: All lower runs are now closed Mid to upper areas remain open Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 159cm Base: 0cm Current status: Part open (Gondola, Hannoki pair, Tsuga Number 2, Tsugaike Chuo triple) Tsugaike Ropeway planned dates: 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, 29th and 30th April Planned closing date: Wednesday 6th May Hakuba Now 2025-2026 season Data as Wednesday 1st April 2026 Total snowfall at base so far 339cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 47 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 24cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 98cm reported on 12 days January 2026 snowfall 181cm reported on 22 days February 2026 snowfall 56cm reported on 10 days March 2026 snowfall 2cm reported on 2 days April 2026 snowfall 0cm reported on 0 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 456cm Posted on Friday 24th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here. Good morning from Zao. As announced yesterday, today (Friday 24th April) is the last day of the ski/snowboard season here in Zao. The original plan was to continue until 6th May, but an early closing announcement seemed increasingly inevitable in the last few weeks. There just wasn't enough snow and stretching what we had out until May was, in the end, impossible. We could enjoy some fine conditions, of course, and there were a lot of people around. (Sometimes too many?! Discuss). January was the peak month in terms of snowfall, with snow reported at base on 23 days. After that, like much of Japan, it felt like the full-on mid-winter mood eased off somewhat and fresh snowfall started to became scarcer. Zao is, of course, a popular destination throughout the year - and for good reason. The Zao Echo Line road connecting us with Miyagi Prefecture re-opens today, so we'll soon be in 'Green Season' mode. Let's hope that 2026-2027 brings us big snow. See you in November!
