Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm Morning from Niseko. Bright and sunny early on with a noticeable wind. There's blue looking up beyond our mountain with a more hazy scene looking back towards Mt Yotei. It was warm over the weekend, but it looks like temps will be cooler this week. While we have rain forecast for base some forecasts even show the chance of some snow at higher elevations. I would hold on any undue excitement about that, though. The Hirafu official website does show what runs are open every day... but during closed hours, all runs are shown as closed. I can understand a certain logic in that (after all, the runs are closed as I write this report), but it's unhelpful to anyone wondering what runs might be available each day. We basically have to wait until a run opens each morning. And this morning I am off to Sapporo and so I cannot wait until 8:30am when all will be revealed. In my opinion, the logic applied seems... flawed. ------------------------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 235cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Base: 0cm Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Ace Gondola King Number 3 six King Number 4 single * You need to get the Ace Gondola back down to base Courses open (according to official website as of yesterday): Beginners access Shirakaba Large Rinkan Jumbo Dynamic * Center course is closed until 24th April Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 235cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 20cm (no change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Annupuri Gondola Jumbo Number 1 quad Jumbo Number 4 pair Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Asahigaoka ski area (near Kutchan Station) closed on 8th March. It's almost totally clear with just some isolated baby clouds in places, including around the top of Mt Yotei. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm Morning from Niseko and I have to be early... It's a bit of a damp, grey, cloudy, foggy kind of morning. Looks like there's very limited visibility up on the mountain. Hopefully it might get a bit brighter (it's expected to). A south westerly wind that might be particularly felt at higher elevations. At 8:30am, the top lift at Hirafu is on hold. I just noticed something ---- the lifts at Annupuri now only open at 9:00am now. I can't wait until then to post my report. Hey, check this out. (A bit of info re: new site). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm Good morning from Niseko. It's a bright morning, though generally more subdued shades rather than the bright blue and sharp whites that characterize clearer days in mid winter. Temps are due to rise to around 15C in the daytime at town level over the next few days. I'm still trying to confirm exactly what courses remain available at Annupuri, but they're not saying. Perhaps it's a secret. I suppose we can guess based on what lifts are open. (Sorry I haven't been over there in the last few days). Let's guessing! 6 lifts remain operating: 3 at Hirafu and 3 at Annupuri. Hopefully we'll enjoy more fine weather over the weekend, though looks like tomorrow might be a bit windy. ------------------------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 250cm (-15cm change) Base: 5cm (-10cm change) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Ace Gondola King Number 3 six King Number 4 single * You need to get the Ace Gondola back down to base Courses open (according to official website): Beginners access Shirakaba Large Rinkan Jumbo Dynamic * Center course is closed until 24th April Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 245cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 20cm (-10cm change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Annupuri Gondola Jumbo Number 1 quad Jumbo Number 4 pair Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Asahigaoka ski area (near Kutchan Station) closed on 8th March. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm Good morning from Niseko. Just come back from my morning walk. Hardly anyone around. It's such a big contrast with the busy bustle of the peak season - and really takes a while to get used to every year around this time. Anyway, it's a cloudy/overcast-y kind of morning and... yeah. That's about all I have this morning. Oh, not windy so the 6 lifts that are scheduled to be moving should be ok and on time this morning. ------------------------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 265cm (-15cm change since yesterday) Base: 15cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Ace Gondola King Number 3 six King Number 4 single Courses open (according to official website): Beginners access Shirakaba Large Rinkan Jumbo Dynamic * Center course is closed until 24th April Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 250cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 30cm (no change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Annupuri Gondola Jumbo Number 1 quad Jumbo Number 4 pair Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Asahigaoka ski area (near Kutchan Station) closed on 8th March. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm Good morning from Niseko. Mt Yotei is modelling a cute collection of summit covering white cloud early this morning. Awwwww. What a beautiful mountain. Beyond that, though, we have almost completely clear and sunny blue skies. Hopefully the six lifts that are scheduled to be open today will be able to do so. Tomorrow is due to be cloudy, but there's clearer skies due again on Thursday. That's all I have this morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 878cm And then there were two as we enter the last stretch. With Hanazono and Village ending the season yesterday, we now just have Hirafu and Annupuri operating. Hirafu is operating three lifts - Ace Gondola, King Number 3 and Number 4. Annupuri is also operating three lifts - the gondola, Jumbo Number 1 quad and Jumbo Number 4 pair lifts. They are not telling us what runs/courses remain open, so I can't elaborate further on that. Such details are not important anyway, right? (I must just be really odd wanting to know these things). Unfortunately, both the top lifts appear to be on hold at the start of the day. I'll continue to try and find some words each morning right until the end! As that time approaches, I'm already planning for and looking forward to my annual hibernation period! ------------------------------------ Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 280cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 20cm (-5cm change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Ace Gondola King Number 3 six King Number 4 single Courses open (according to official website): Beginners access Shirakaba Large Rinkan Jumbo Dynamic * Center course is closed until 24th April Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------ Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): Peak: 250cm (no change since yesterday) Base: 40cm (no change since yesterday) Lifts planned to operate (subject to weather): Annupuri Gondola Jumbo Number 1 quad Jumbo Number 4 pair Planned last day of the season: Wednesday 6th May ------------------------------------ Asahigaoka ski area (near Kutchan Station) closed on 8th March. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1090cm Posted on Sunday 12th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here. Going out on this last day for two of the three remaining resorts—but not to ski, but to look at the early flowers blooming at a castle grounds here in Myoko. The cherries will soon open here at the base of Akakan, too. But it’s a nice day for one last ski, too! I just wonder when Lotte Arai will close. Driving by yesterday, I saw a lot of bare patches there as well, so I’ll update when we get some news. As always, I wonder why many resort websites are so low on useful information that people can use, high on self-promotion.... A gripe that I’m sure I’ll share with you next season as well. -- Akakura Kanko: 50cm, 5° Myokokogen Sky Cable gondola and Hotel No. 3 lift only (it seems; closed yesterday, no update yet) Closing today Akakura Onsen: Closed Alpen Blick Resort Closed Myoko Suginohara: Closed Kyukamura RunRun: Closed Seki Onsen: 150cm, 8° Closing today Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort: Closed Madarao Mountain Resort: Closed Lotte Arai Resort: 218cm, 9° Gondola and Zendana lift open for sure; Kokenashi might run. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1090cm Posted on Friday 10th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here. I wasn’t planning to write every day in this post-regular season, but things keep changing! The official word came down from Akakan yesterday: the season ends on April 12 (although the Myoko Sky Cable gondola will run during the Golden Week holiday at the beginning of May). Going to their website, they have also announced that they are closed today due to strong winds (which are predicted to get even stronger in the afternoon). Lotte Arai has all three of its late-season lifts marked as operating, although the gondola will be running at reduced speed. They are also warning of potential lift closures due to wind. This wind is really going to eat up what snowpack is remaining, helped by really warm temperatures; I wonder if Seki Onsen will be able to open over the weekend, too? They are having a festival with fireworks tomorrow from 7pm, which of course doesn’t require snow.... -- Akakura Kanko: 80cm, 10° (down 20cm in one day!) - Myoko Now: Thursday 9th April 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1090cm Posted on Thursday 9th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here. A couple of interesting things, so time to share some info with you. First is a really steady SW wind that is going to continue to melt the snow really fast. It’s been amazing around the house to see the trees pop up after their horizontal hibernation under the snow. Like I’ve said before, in summer we can hardly believe that there was that much snow out there in all that green stuff; in winter we can’t remember the jungle that the forests are in summer. The other thing was a check on the plowing of the road that runs under Suginohara Ski Area and runs back behind Mt. Myoko. I thought I’d check it out, and maybe take the dog for a hike-up ski on those big, open, wide slopes on the south side of the resort. The road is still barricaded just beyond the town, and there’s not enough snow lower down to hike up. The signs say the road is closed until the end of April, but I wonder how far they’ve actually gotten. This could make it hard for a lot of people who do like to climb on the west side of the mountain (like, maybe hiking up to the snow on dry ground). I’ll check again soon to see if they do open up more of the road soon. -- Akakura Kanko: 100cm, 6° Myokokogen Sky Cable gondola and Hotel No. 3 lift only Hoping to stay open until May 6 Akakura Onsen: Closed Alpen Blick Resort Closed Myoko Suginohara: Closed Kyukamura RunRun: Closed Seki Onsen: Closed weekdays Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort: Closed Madarao Mountain Resort: Closed Lotte Arai Resort: 253cm, 8° Gondola and Zendana lift open for sure; Kokenashi might run.
