The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a relatively 'warm' one (for Shiga Kogen) with lots of fog around at times. By evening time it was colder and clearer but... it just... doesn't feel like late January weather. Hard to believe that come tomorrow we are already into February. Earlier on this morning snow was falling and there's a cm or two around base areas and it is colder. It has gradually been clearing but having said that, light snow is still falling right now here in Maruike area.... but the sun is shining down as well! It looks and feels like it might clear up, but who knows. The forecast says that snow clouds might be with us today and tomorrow to be followed by clearer weather around Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's the calm after the storm this morning here in Shiga Kogen. With another 25+cm of snow to report since yesterday, it's a close to perfect morning to be strapping on the board(s). What more can I say? (Other than once again the snow depths at the resorts aren't budging much. Just ignore that!) Oh yes the other thing is about the forecast which I mentioned yesterday. It's still looking like we might get some rain up here even on Saturday but hopefully it will be turning into snow on Sunday. One of those times when we just want the forecast to be wrong. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's difficult to put a number on things this morning but my best attempt measuring in a few places is.... 45cm of fresh snowfall. Whatever the numbers, basically we have had a heavy load of snow delivered to Shiga Kogen since yesterday and it's still falling now. This is the kind of deep snow that really livens things up and is of course extremely welcome to see. Yey! And suddenly (or perhaps not so suddenly, but glaringly) the official snow depths at a few places at least seem rather under-reported. Anyway, fine times. Lets hope we can avoid the nasty looking rain that most places are due for on Saturday - and maybe even up here as well. It wouldn't be fair to get all this lovely snowfall and then get rained on. Tomorrow the sun will probably be out which should make it an excellent choice of day to be skiing or snowboarding. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing! And some of the resort areas reporting 20cm of fresh as well. And oddly there's a bit of sunshine coming through my window at the moment. Hold on, no, it's gone. Back to grey cloud cover and the snow falling... Yes, it is a good morning. I mentioned a brief glimpse of the sun - the forecast does actually tell us to expect some of that later on today and so perhaps it's the first signs of clearing conditions. A friend mentioned to me last night, we have just half a month left of 'the full mountain' (ie. all of the resort areas) being open - come April some areas will be closed, though of course some resort areas plan to open right through into May. Most of the resorts don't seem to have adjusted their official snow depth numbers, but that's par for the course! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yuki! Yes, it's snowing this morning here in Shiga Kogen. And we always like that. Only silly people wouldn't like that. I'm calling it at 5cm so far and it is still falling. Pretty decent snow as well... great to see it and no doubt even greater to get out and slide down on it. Snow is due for the day today and tonight as well and so I am hoping that tomorrow I will also be able to bring further snow news. The snow clouds will probably finish up sometime tomorrow and then after that sunny weather is forecast around Wednesday and Thursday, when it will also get a bit warmer. It's keeping cold today though so I am going to get out there and enjoy it. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen and there's 1cm of snow to report and light snow was still falling earlier on, but has eased off now. Leaving us with just mainly cloud for the moment and hints of blue sky in places. Sunny skies are forecast for tomorrow and perhaps temperatures might hover around zero during the day, but the forecast still teases us with the prospect of some potentially decent snowfall come Wednesday night and through into the weekend. Let's hope it is more than just a tease! And the snow of the previous days means that it should be a really good morning to be out there. The new snow I am posting this morning is from yesterday since I posted the last report, there was no more overnight. Not much snow on the forecast now, perhaps a bit tomorrow night, so we might get a few sprinklings at times between the sunny skies that are likely in the coming week. Temperatures may rise a bit but happily it doesn't look like there's a big warm-up due just yet. Keep cold please! Good morning from Shiga Kogen and there's more snow to report this morning. 4cm outside my place and I am hearing people talk of anything up to 10cm this morning. And the snow isn't due to let up just yet either, perhaps continuing into tomorrow. It is snowing now but it's quite bright and visibility - here in the Maruike area at least - is pretty good. There is 1 week left for all of the resort area of Shiga Kogen to remain open. Apparently, the ones planning to close would do so even if we got 50cm in one night. Hardly likely of course, I wonder if that did actually happen they might be tempted! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More fresh snow! It has been a good few days with snow falling and giving us a decent refresh of the slopes. It feels more like mid-winter than it does late March (kind of the opposite of many days during mid season!) Snow is still falling from the skies as I write this though it's also quite bright and good visibility for the moment. It probably won't last beyond today though with sun forecast over the weekend and while it will not be as cold as today it should be keeping pretty cold tomorrow especially. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The day started slow, but now we can't see with the heavy snow falling—pelting, crashing, screaming—down. The massive, once-in-25-years low pressure centered over Hokkaido is bringing high winds along the coast and up on the northern island, and steady snowfall here. No report yesterday, because maybe I didn't want to tell you it was raining/slushy. There was about 30cm of fresh this morning, so that's the fall for the record. There will definitely be more for tomorrow - the forecast for this region was around 70cm, and it could be more... The two open resorts are not sharing good information today (-3 cm and no change? Wrong, boys, wrong). The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . This is being written during a mid snow clearing coffee break; there is a lot of snow out there to clear, and I'm the one to do it. I am not sure how much snow was on the ground this morning; there was considerable blowing and drifting, and the snow was pretty heavy and wind-packed. It was somewhere around a meter, but what to say officially... 70cm? 80cm? At least the cars are moving here, even if our windows are still completely filled in (snow reaching to the eaves; low, I'll admit, but still more than two and a half meters tall). The sun did come out for one moment, and was immediately welcomed by insane winds that completely obscured the roads, but which disappeared as the snow came back in. Ah, the wonders of nature. One word from the wife: a friend reported that there was no one at Akakura Onsen yesterday. Take advantage of this snow, people! Warm up for the season—in powder! The roads are in pretty good shape, actually (OK, you'll have to dig out your car, but..... A meter of snow! One more cup of coffee, and back out to drive the snow-wrangling beast. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Cold and clear this morning; Akakan and Ikenotaira picked the perfect day to start the season! Just a little extra snow overnight—maybe 25-30cm (funny when a foot of snow seems like "just a little"). It probably won't last, though, as the forecast for the near future is for continued snowfall.
