The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Hakuba where we have a bit more fresh snow and hoping for some decent snowfall during the day today. Light snow during the day yesterday, nothing major, but this morning the snow has started up again and there's up to 10cm of snow being reported on upper slopes by a few resorts, with mostly just a few cm around base areas (47 report 10cm at base too). It's coming down pretty good at the moment and with snow forecast for the day hopefully we can get some decent numbers in. The forecast shows clearer conditions tomorrow and perhaps Friday before a return to more snowfall over the weekend (with a bit of a worry of possible rain on Saturday unfortunately - but let's deal with that possibility later on!) On Saturday it's the 46th Fire Festival at Happo-one, over on their Nakiyama lower area. Lots of festival-type events going on including a torchlit skiing display, performances and fireworks. It's usually fun to see and mingle with the crowds. Anyway, that starts at 7:30pm over at Nakiyama (Happo-one) - on Saturday 20th. Might see you there! Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall. All courses are open. The Osaru (lower) area of the Tree Riding Zone open. There is no 'nighta' at Hakuba 47. Official snow depth: Upper: 205cm Base: 100cm Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu is reporting 3-5cm of fresh snowfall on lower areas and 10cm on upper area. All courses except Snow Diving and Adventure are open. The Toomi area will be open until 8:30pm tonight for 'nighta'. We did have light snow falling yesterday morning but there's just 1cm of fresh to report from here at base, with resorts reporting a few cm on average on mountain. That's not as much as we were hoping for (of course), but at least we enjoyed a return to colder conditions yesterday. It's a cold start to the day again and we can probably expect some icy hard conditions early morning. There's lots of cloud around this morning but a few breaks in the clouds too with some sun shining through in places. We are expecting snow again later today and through the day tomorrow. I'm happy to (cautiously) report the 'heavy snow' on the forecast below... We'll have that please! Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 2cm of fresh snowfall. All courses are open. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba where we have had some snowfall on the mountains, just a bit down here at base. After the fine start to the day yesterday, snow started falling around mid afternoon. I am hearing unofficial reports of up to 20cm of fresh snow higher up this morning, though the official numbers from resorts are keeping in the up to 10cm kind of range. Info as it is available in the respective resort areas below. The sun is out as I sit here writing this report and again there's a rather hazy kind of feel at the moment. It feels rather mild as well, certainly more than yesterday morning, and local forecasts say that temps might rise to about +7 later on in the day. By tomorrow morning there should be more snow on the ground and we're hoping for the chance of a decent amount through Monday. Some forecasts still show good potential. Fingers crossed. Once we get to mid-week though it does seem that we'll be back to clearer skies once again and milder/warmer conditions. The Hakuba Goryu Telecabin gondola is still closed this morning. It sounds like there was some kind of fire in the gondola station that they need to fix up. If you wish to ride the top lifts at Hakuba Goryu, you'll need to get there via Hakuba 47 which is of course on the same ticket. There's also a shuttle bus going between Escal Plaza at Hakuba Goryu and the base of Hakuba 47 if you need to get from one to the other. In other news, half pipe fans might be interested to know that the half-pipe-making folk at Hakuba 47 have been putting in a lot of effort and the result is that their pipe is able to open from this morning. Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 5-10cm of fresh snowfall this morning. All courses are open and all of the Tree Riding Zone is open. Half pipe open from today in the Hakuba 47 Terrain Park. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba and there's a bit more fresh snow to report today. Yesterday it was snowing for lots of the day and about 5cm or so reported from on the slopes. Better than none of course and great to see it falling once again and the feeling of fresh under the board(s). Some nice big flakes as well at times while I was up at Hakuba 47. This morning just another slight dusting and light snow was falling earlier on and may well still be higher up now but the forecast for the day is generally just cloudy, with a high of around +2C in the village. It's pretty cold start to the morning though, so wrap up more than you have been the last week or so if you're venturing out. And it appears to be limited visibility in lots of places on mountain as well early on - cloud, 'gas' or fog? One or more of them! There's still snow on (some of) the forecast(s) from time to time over the next few days. But as they don't all agree, I suspect it's going to be a borderline kind of situation once again. Around the resorts it looks like the Tree Riding Zone at Hakuba 47 has re-opened. Not sure what the story is there, perhaps the fresh snowfall. And also the night skiing at Happo-one has now closed for the season due to the snow conditions down on those lower slopes. Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 5cm of fresh snowfall this morning. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Excellent news this morning. Check out these numbers being reported by resorts around the village: Hakuba Cortina: 45-50cm of fresh snowfall Hakuba Goryu: 20-40cm of fresh snowfall Hakuba 47: up to 40cm of fresh snowfall Hakuba Happo-one: 20cm of fresh snowfall at base Top marks going to Cortina with up to 50cm of fresh snow being reported over there (problem is, they aren't fully open as they cope with the new snowfall and also deal with avalanche risks). There's also some upper lift disruption this morning at Happo-one, Goryu and 47 and Tsugaike Kogen due to strong winds. But I think even with the wind most of us are just really happy to see some decent mid-winter like snowfall again. And with a decent cover of fresh snow everywhere, you should find good conditions wherever you choose to ride this morning. The snow is expected to ease off sometime this morning leaving us with just cloudy skies and it should remain cold. The sun might be out tomorrow and if it keeps cold and winds calm then it should be a top day to be on the snow. There's not much snow on the weekly forecast beyond today other than a few scattered showers here and there, and as we approach the weekend temperatures are set to rise and it get warm again. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Fresh snow! Good morning from Hakuba where we are enjoying some fresh snowfall. It's probably a bit on the heavy side, but I don't care... it's fresh snow! About 4cm outside my place and resorts this morning are reporting up to around 10-15cm of fresh early morning. It's really great to see some fresh snow on the ground in the village, and think of how much more of it up there might be on the slopes. Even better to strap on the board(s) and get out playing in it! It's also great to see the official numbers going up at most resorts this morning. Much better than seeing them go down. But anyway fingers crossed we might get a bit more during the day today - snow is forecast - as today we're expecting more of a chance of clearer conditions and sunshine. It has been a cold day today and tomorrow temperatures will probably be slightly higher... and beyond tomorrow through until the weekend it will probably warm up further with temps reaching double digits down here in the village around Friday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . There was no wind yesterday, it was just clear skies, warmth... and a distinct spring feel going on. Interesting to see some people hooded up in full winter gear and the next person wearing just a t-shirt! As expected it's going to be warm again today rising to around 10C here in the village. There's more cloud around this morning but some sunshine and blue sky as well, though the forecast is generally for cloudy conditions during the day. Snow conditions may be a bit hard at first but will soon loosen up and get heavier... good thigh exercise. What about the rain that has been threatening? Well, different forecasts are painting different pictures but it would seem that we should see some rain tomorrow (less than feared?) and then more on Monday. Tomorrow will probably be the warmest day so far this year as well, rising a further few more degrees than today even. You want more exciting snowy news right? After the fine and sunny start to the day yesterday, things started to get more cloudy by late morning and by mid afternoon it was mostly grey and cloudy. It got a bit colder as the day went on as well after sun-fuelled warmth of the morning. This morning there's some new snow to report. Just a cm down here at base with resorts reporting up to a light cover on lower slopes and 5-10cm at higher elevations. Light snow is still falling now but we seem to be forecast a day of cloud and so I wouldn't expect much out of it. It's colder this morning too which is good - always good to feel a chill in the morning air - and it should remain close to or under zero for the day here at base and considerably colder higher up. We may enjoy some sunshine tomorrow morning but after that by evening it should be snowing again... and that forecast is still looking quite promising. Fingers crossed! Resorts reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow on upper slopes after some good snowy conditions on the slopes yesterday. This morning it's more of a bright, hazy and sunny start to the day in Hakuba and while it's a cold start it will be warming up somewhat during the day. Hopefully it'll be snowing by the end of the day though, but we might get a bit of drizzle before that. Perhaps a similar kind of story for tomorrow as well though as the weather people on the news said last night 'it's hard to read'. Tell me about it! We may not have been blessed with fresh snow, but the setting we enjoy here is hard to beat! Alas, it was as warm as we were hoping it wouldn't be with a lot of snow melt going on. Temperatures dropped down to just around zero overnight but it's going to warm up once again today with temperatures here in the village once again forecast to rise up to maybe as high as 14-15 degrees this afternoon. Poka-poka, as they say. This morning there's a nice blue backdrop to the mountain range though more cloud over to the east. Rain is forecast to be falling by the end of the day today and continue into tomorrow, possibly heavy at times. Not what you want to hear... sorry!! I spent a bit of time at 47 where visibility was rather limited while I was up there, and it kept pretty cold too. Great to see the snow hanging from the trees and of course feel it under the board(s). It's a mix of conditions this morning again. Depending on where you are in the valley you might be getting snowed on (higher up), have the sun shining down on you and/or just have lots of cloud hanging around. Generally it's mostly cloudy at the moment, but it doesn't quite seem to be able to make up it's mind. Currently -1C here at village base area. There's a bit of light snow hanging around on some forecasts - especially for higher elevations - at times over the next few days, with others telling us to expect sun all the way through tomorrow. Snow started falling around mid afternoon yesterday to everyone's delight, and this morning here's what resorts are reporting as a result: Hakuba Cortina reporting 10-15cm of fresh snow this morning. Hakuba Goryu reporting 5cm of fresh snow on lower areas and 15cm on upper slopes. Hakuba 47 reporting 10cm of fresh snow this morning. Hakuba Happo-one reporting 8cm of fresh snow this morning. So around 5cm of fresh snow at base areas, and up to 15cm higher up. Not bad at all, and people heading out for early lifts this morning will be happy. I'm off out there myself to enjoy this late season fresh... The weather is fine too this morning. Currently hovering around 0C and a bit of an early morning mix at the moment - cloud, blue sky, sunshine, fog - depending on where you are, but with the chance of more snow today and perhaps tomorrow as well it will be interesting to see how the day turns out.
