Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 266cm

Posted on Wednesday 17th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Hello and good morning from Hakuba where we have a bit more fresh snow and hoping for some decent snowfall during the day today.

Light snow during the day yesterday, nothing major, but this morning the snow has started up again and there's up to 10cm of snow being reported on upper slopes by a few resorts, with mostly just a few cm around base areas (47 report 10cm at base too).

It's coming down pretty good at the moment and with snow forecast for the day hopefully we can get some decent numbers in.

The forecast shows clearer conditions tomorrow and perhaps Friday before a return to more snowfall over the weekend (with a bit of a worry of possible rain on Saturday unfortunately - but let's deal with that possibility later on!)

On Saturday it's the 46th Fire Festival at Happo-one, over on their Nakiyama lower area. Lots of festival-type events going on including a torchlit skiing display, performances and fireworks. It's usually fun to see and mingle with the crowds. Anyway, that starts at 7:30pm over at Nakiyama (Happo-one) - on Saturday 20th.

Might see you there!
