The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It was great to see 'proper' snowfall during the day yesterday at times. By proper, I mean the kind of heavy snowfall that we take for granted here but has been something of a stranger this season so far. The heavy stuff didn't last for that long, often going back to lighter snow, but hopefully a sign of what is to come in the next few days... Was good to see more snow than was on the forecast as well! It's a cold morning but the sun breaking through some of the clouds that remain and increasing amounts of blue sky on show. My apologies I was not able to catch any updates the report made yesterday afternoon regarding fresh snowfall on the mountain but they have this morning increased the snow depths on all areas by 5-10cm. The webcams for the upper areas this morning are looking very inviting with some blue skies and sunshine up there and that new layer of snow. Should be good. Hopefully things will be much better too with snow forecast every day from tonight to the end of the week at least - and at times particularly around Tuesday/Wednesday, significant snowfall is expected. There's a chance that the storm may start with some rain lower down here in the village but quickly change into snow. We all go up to enjoy the snow this morning with great anticipation for what is about to come. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. There may be a few more hangovers than normal this morning after the events of last night so a good morning to get early lifts up. Would be better if there were 30cm of fresh up there but we're going to have to do with the 2cm reported by the resort. It's the weekend so all lifts at the resort are moving this morning, apart from the Kandahar pair and the Karasawa pair. Courses that are open remain the same... for those to open it's all about snow. Early to mid week is still looking extremely promising for Nozawa-like heavy snowfall. If the weather co-operates and the forecasts are right, we might get rained on around Monday but then the storm arrives bringing with it heavy snow. Look to that for around Tuesday-Thursday. Come onnnnn! For the moment there's still plenty of fun to be had of course - just not quite what we expect... head to the higher slopes for more snow and the better conditions. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa. Light snowfall this morning with the resort reporting 5cm across the mountain since yesterday. What about this storm, I hear you ask. Well, snow is forecast for the day today as well as tomorrow and indeed actually through until at least the weekend. So we should be getting regular fresh snowfall. How much? I'll just let you know each day as the various forecasts just don't seem to be particularly reliable at the moment and often say different things. It does look most likely that we will see the heaviest snowfall here in Nozawa around tomorrow night and into Wednesday. It's still tagged as 'heavy snow', so fingers crossed. I'm saving my thoughts until we see what happens over the next few days! I'll update you tomorrow morning with the latest. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. There's a lot of cloud up there but also some blue sky and the appearing at times too making for some dramatic scenery at times. It's keeping nice and cold too. Only a bit of snow since the report yesterday really not much more than a dusting really. Snow is still expected to be back with us later on and a real mix of things on the forecast over the next week. Still hoping for regular snowfall amongst the clearer skies here and there. It does look like colder conditions are here to stay at least. Other than that, let's just keep watching for forecast to see where the journey takes us. This morning though it should be very good to be up there on those upper areas. Here we are back to weekdays and that means a number of ski lifts being rested, though the open course situation remains unchanged. Weekday and so less people around. The famous Fire Festival is coming soon though and so we always expect more people around for that. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The snowfall was somewhat disappointing yesterday with not a whole lot to show for it. I so want the season to get going properly. And while we do have some snow possible today and tomorrow, it's Monday through the middle of next week that we should be excited about. The forecasts that matter still show us down for heavy snow around Tuesday-Wednesday. Nozawa-like snowfall please! For the coming weekend the forecasts give us a mix of cloud and light snowfall at times, and happily it will be keeping decently cold. Hope those of you in Nozawa now enjoy the festival. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It's a beautiful morning in Hakuba. Not only do we have a nice fresh layer of snow on the ground (10cm or so), but it's beautiful blue skies with just a few clouds hanging around. Stunning views of the mountains this morning and all is calm. Hakuba 47 reporting 30cm of new snow up top with 10cm at base. Cold -4 as if 7am. At the time of writing it is 2C here near Happo base and with the sun out a high of about 7C is likely later on in the day. The forecast is... well, a bit dry looking actually with more of a chance of rain in the village than snow. But we can hope that if and when that happens, it will be snow on the upper slopes. In terms of resort openings and skiable terrain, we're mostly unchanged this morning. At Happo, they have the Alpen quad lift moving today, in place of the previously operating Usagidaira pair lift. The Kokusai Number 1 pair is also moving but like the Gondola just to get people up to the snow and back. Tsugaike Kogen now also has the Tsuga Number 2 lift operating this weekend. After that rain and wet yesterday possibly dampening some spirits, it was snowing up on the mountains and this morning we are getting reports of some decent snowfalls up there. Hakuba 47 - reporting 30cm of fresh Hakuba Goryu - reporting 15cm of fresh Happo-one - reporting 20cm of fresh Tsugaike Kogen - reporting 20+cm of fresh Nice. Down here in the village you might not think it as we have only seen a slight sprinkling of snow. Luckily it's not the village that we ski or board in! It's still snowing up there with generally pretty poor visibility. I'm sure the snow will make up for that though. Anyway, changes in resort operations that I can tell this morning so far - Hakuba 47 are opening up this morning with the Gondola moving as well (though you need to take it back down to base just yet). Snow clearing up and eventually the sun tomorrow? What's looking good though is the potential for a decent blast of snow mid week. Keep all eyes on that one. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Bad weather yesterday with lifts actually stopping because of it, with Happo completely closed from lunchtime. It's a calmer scene this morning and a thin new layer of snow down at village level to report. 1-2cm or so, with resorts reporting 5-15cm at higher elevations. There's lots of thin cloud around but perhaps we will get to see more of the sun as the day moves on. At the moment it is about +1C. We still wait for serious dumpage. While there has been fun to be had, we still feel very much like we're on standby for the main course to be served. Tonight into Saturday is still looking exciting in terms of potential snowfall. It looks set to clear up though and cloud with sun later in forecast for the day. It is 2 degrees at the moment, with a high of around 8C forecast for later. Not much else to report this morning. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I can see the sky! After those few crazy days of snow, this morning there's some blue sky to see and the sun is showing up. It may seem calmer, but actually we have wind to deal with today. At the time of writing Happo-one is closed with the gondola unable to open up and it looks like the upper areas of Goryu are closed as well with their gondola standing still. Hopefully that situation may change... there's some really fine conditions to be found up there, seems such a waste not to be able to get up there. More new snowfall to report. About 5cm in village, 47 reporting 10cm at base and up to 30cm higher up. The Usagidaira area of Usagidaira reporting 10cm. Looks like we are on for a break in snowfall over the next few days, but it's due back Wednesday and then another storm lined up for the weekend. For mid December, conditions are excellent and there's a lot of snow to play in. It's easy to get excited about it all, but we need to remember to keep safe and always keep in mind there are dangers out there. I'm liking it. Loving it, even! I'm going to try and keep up with the news from around the resorts in each report as the season kicks off properly here. Gambarimasu! Things may well change during the day so please keep that in mind. Pretty much all of Hakuba 47 is now open, with Hakuba Goryu planning on opening at least part of Toomi from tomorrow. Happo plan to be operating the Kokusai Number 1 pair and Skyline Number 2 pair lifts tomorrow in addition to what they already have going, the Gondola will still be just used for getting up to the open slopes. Tsugaike Kogen has 192cm as the official snow depth on it's upper slopes. That's impressive. I don't see any changes in lift and course openings there, but would expect that for tomorrow. So we're not quite there yet with resort operations, but there's certainly going to be more open this weekend and from what I have heard from a few friends yesterday the conditions were great out there. Deep as you would want. While they were very excited and using all sorts of adjectives freely, I do believe them! ;) Hakuba Cortina of course is well known as getting excellent snow, and they are opening up tomorrow for the season. Norikura seem a bit shy with details but we have found out that they plan to have one lift operating from tomorrow morning. Anyway, should be a very fine weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Snow snow snow! Lots of it, oh yes. Resorts around Hakuba reporting 30-50cm on upper slopes this morning, with base areas getting another 10-15cm or so. And it continues to come down. This really is what we needed to kick things off in style. Wind doesn't seem to be causing problems in terms of lift operations, but snow is being blown about up there and visibility is poor on the slopes as it continues to snow and heavily at times. Snow is likely through tomorrow but we should see an easing off as we get into the new week. Resorts aren't fully open as yet, and are probably coping with the snowfall this morning - I would expect more lifts to be moving very soon now. Some details I have been able to gather include: Skyline is now open at Happo, Toomi opening at Goryu, all of Hakuba 47 now open, and more lifts operating over at Tsugaike Kogen. Hakuba Cortina and Norikura have also both opened this morning. Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 40cm of fresh snow this morning on upper slopes and 30cm at Toomi.
