The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's a busy peak season Sunday of course and lots of people around here in Nozawa. Just a bit of snow really since yesterday with the numbers reported by the resort yesterday afternoon and this morning added below. It's a cloudy start to the day here but snow is expected later on and the potential for a fair bit as well overnight. So I look forward to being able to report that tomorrow. It would be good if we were on receiving end of a good chunk of fresh snow because after tomorrow we are expecting a run of sunny days and it might get a bit milder. Hopefully not too much. • Nozawa Now: Friday 19th December 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 310cm Posted on Friday 19th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After the limited lift operations and courses open yesterday, we seem to be back to where we were with the top runs once again open today and the Gondola scheduled to start it's day of work at 8:40am. Here's what the resort reports this morning in terms of new snowfall since yesterday afternoon: Yamabiko - 50cm Uenotaira - 40cm Hikage - 25cm Nagasaka - 25cm It's calmer this morning now that storm has passed but there's still lots of cloud hanging around for the moment. So it's not sunny from the start of the day, but we are still expecting conditions to clear up as the day moves on. A cold start though it's -3 here in the village and Yamabiko area reporting a temperature of -8 degrees as of 8am. Tomorrow looks set to be milder and we may some rain falling at lower levels before it hopefully ends up snowing once again with snow forecast for Sunday. I don't think we're expecting a snow storm anything like what we seen over the last few days though. No confirmed news of the resort opening up more tomorrow. With more people surely going to turn up this weekend, I'm expecting the resort to be as good as fully open. Let me emphasise that's just a guess at this stage. I will update this report later in the day if and when I have more firm news on that front. UPDATE @ EVENING Yes, so tomorrow will be the Grand Opening of the resort. Which means a few event like things going on and more importantly... the resort will be almost all opened up. All but a few steeper areas seem to be planning to be open tomorrow. I'll have more info in the morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 335cm Posted on Tuesday 23rd December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A lot of snow up on the top areas of Nozawa - 35-37cm being reported by the resort on the top Uenotaira and Yamabiko areas respectively, so conditions should be great up there in particular this morning. Lower runs reporting up to 25cm, so good conditions all round and about that much since yesterday at base. Forecast isn't for that much snow today though it is falling from the skies at the minute. The clouds may even clear and the sun say hello later on according to a local forecast. Tomorrow is due to be a bit warmer with temps rising to around 4 degrees but we should be back to snow again as we move into Wednesday. Poor visibility at the start of the day on the upper areas in particular. Santa was at Nozawa yesterday and he's here today as well, having a leisurely breakfast and hitting the slopes at 10am. First 100 people get a present off him as well, so give him a shout if you see him! Today is a National Holiday in Japan for the Emperors Birthday. • Nozawa Now: Thursday 18th December 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 70cm Snowfall at base this season 285cm Posted on Thursday 18th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Lower areas only open this morning due to windy conditions on the mountain. As this snowstorm continues to make headlines in Japan, we keep getting more snow, but the strong winds mean that only the lower Hikage and Nagasaka runs are able to open. In some seasons, the resort would have to be totally closed as there wouldn't be enough snow down at base but not this time round. Different set of lifts moving this morning so it's a bit of a different 'look' to Nozawa. The resort is reporting 43cm of fresh snowfall at top Yamabiko, 40cm on Uenotaira and 70cm on Nagasaka. Interesting numbers there! There's what we had yesterdaty as well to add to that. Just thing... lots. Check out the official snow depths. Yamabiko - 270cm. Uenotaira - 250cm. Nagasaka - 200cm. It's only mid December! Sugoi. Snow, possibly heavy snow, wind and cold conditions still forecast for the day today. It should clear up by morning though leaving us with sunny conditions tomorrow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 215cm Posted on Wednesday 17th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Back to normal with the lifts and courses this morning and 10cm or so of fresh snow to report. Yesterday was rather uneventful in terms of what was open on the mountain and the weather (bit wet at one point), so good to see us back to snow and open. The resort is this morning reporting 25cm of fresh snowfall on the top runs. As you can see from the images below, visibility is poor. Not much to see. Care needed. The snow is really coming down at the moment as well so I expect it to be piling up quite quickly. Which is what the forecast has us down for today and tomorrow. Winds might well still affect things today again, so got to keep an eye on that. • Nozawa Now: Saturday 27th December 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 435cm Posted on Saturday 27th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I have more snow to report from Nozawa this morning. There was snowfall during the day yesterday and add that to the numbers posted by the resort this morning and we'll have close to another 50cm on the upper areas of the resort. Deep enough? I actually heard someone last night complain that it was 'too deep'. Not often you hear that in the world is it. But at the very least another 20+cm right across the mountain, making for always-fresh conditions wherever you choose to ride. I read this in another report, but it's true --- conditions couldn't be much better than they are. After that slight delay what a fantastic start to the season - can the rest of the season continue on from here in the same way? Light snow continued to fall into early morning but it has stopped here for now. Still limited visibility out there, but it will likely begin to clear this morning. Will be cold overnight tonight but warm up a bit tomorrow with the expected sunshine. More snow should be back by New Year though, don't worry! Wednesday is, of course, New Years Eve and there'll be a few events going on to celebrate and bring in the new year. First of all nighta at the Nagasaka area will be open from 4:30pm until 11:30pm on Wednesday. There'll be sake and hot wine to sample from 11pm until midnight and once the New Year arrives there'll be a firework display. Sounds like fun! • Nozawa Now: Friday 26th December 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 60cm Snowfall at base this season 415cm Posted on Friday 26th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa and it's one of those exciting mornings when I get to report silly amounts of new snowfall. So it was snowing yesterday and there was 10-20cm reported over the mountain by the resort (that's the numbers in the brackets below in the 'fresh snow' bit). This morning they report 60cm of fresh on Yamabiko, 70cm on Uenotaira, 45cm on Hikage and Nagasaka and 40cm on Karasawa. Doing a bit of sums, I make that a haul of 90cm on Uenotaira since yesterday. ! I can confirm there has been definitely over 50cm here at base, and I have the prospect of going to have to go out and shovel it around after I post this report. Oh the troubles of living in Nozawa! Buy yes, forget trying to get exact the numbers are just... big. There's a ton of snow out there again and it will be deep this morning. Visibility is limited on the upper mountain areas in particular. Goes without saying that while it's totally expected to be stoked by the powder out there, don't get over-excited. Take care. Safety! What's more, things aren't busy yet. Well they sure didn't seem to be yesterday and this morning seems about the same from what I can see. I expect things to start getting busy from tomorrow and as we approach the New Year holidays. The sun might join us tomorrow as well with a run of clearer days lined up, and a bit milder too. December 2014 is treating us well. Let's hope the other months of the season deliver as well. Fresh snow this morning: Yamabiko - 60cm (+10cm) Uenotaira - 70cm (+20cm) Hikage - 45cm (+20cm) Nagasaka - 45cm (+20cm) Karasawa - 40cm (+15cm) Official snow depths: Yamabiko - 310cm Uenotaira - 265cm Hikage - 220cm Nagasaka - 215cm Karasawa - 180cm Courses open: All courses are now open except: Hikage no kabe Grand Prix course Jumping Course Mukoubayashi Challenge 39 Kandahara West Kandahara East Kamoshika Course Lifts open (subject to weather conditions): All lifts operating except: Hikage Number 2 Pair A line Nozawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Friday 26th December 2014 Total snowfall at base 415cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 12 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 70cm (14th and 18th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 415cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. • Nozawa Now: Thursday 25th December 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 355cm Posted on Thursday 25th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After some clearer skies yesterday, it's a snowy Chrismtas morning here in Nozawa, which always seems just so fitting. The resort reports 20cm of new snowfall across the mountain (curiously a bit less at the top), and I can indeed confirm such amounts as once I finish this report I'm going to have to go and shovel that lot off the top of my Nozzlemobile. Not too cold this morning just under freezing point and snow falling from the skies still so limited visibility especially on the higher slopes but the fresh powder to play should make up for that. Snow might ease at times during the day. Doesn't look too busy actually this morning, after all it isn't a national holiday here, but I would expect things to really start getting busy this coming weekend. Outlook for the weekend is for the snow clouds to move on and the start of a run of perhaps clearer skies and it won't be as cold either. Maybe get some sunshine from Sunday into next week. Merry Christmas! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 647cm Posted on Friday 16th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and a lovely fresh morning from Nozawa. Though I expect not everyone is feeling quite so fresh after the events of last night. As ever on that date in particular, Nozawa was bustling with life last night. 10cm of snowfall since last night and just cloudy skies to start the day off here. A bit wet lower down but would expect the conditions to be better higher up. A significant refresh would be just the ticket now, and hopefully we'll get that overnight tonight. Temperatures look set to take a drop with snow due starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow. During the day today though expecting mostly cloud - foggy conditions on Yamabiko early on - and fairly mild temperatures. Lots of snow tonight please! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 657cm Posted on Saturday 17th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The snow started falling sometime early morning this morning in Nozawa and the resort is reporting 5cm of snow on the upper slopes and 10cm down at base. I reckon the difference there is the one+ hour between the readings though - lower readings coming in at 8:45am with the top readings at 7:25am) and expect there to be at least the 10cm up top as well by now. It's falling nicely at the moment and at this rate should be piling up and filling in tracks, snowfall due to continue today and through until tomorrow morning. It doesn't feel overly cold at all this morning though. A moderate wind is due today with lifts seemingly unaffected early morning. Hopefully that will remain the case. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 622cm Posted on Monday 12th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . An impressive refresh this morning with 30-45cm of new snowfall being reported by the resort across the mountain. Snow falling and poor visibility isn't affecting the lifts on this last day of the long weekend though so for those wanting to seek out that fresh and brave the elements it's all there available for you. Just know where you're going, and remember not to do anything daft. Things can very easily go horribly wrong in this kind of condition. They can also go fantastically right as well, and snow conditions (weather aside!) should be great this morning. Back to a normal weekday tomorrow. Of course, we are fast approaching the big event of the year here in Nozawa Onsen... yes, the Dosojin Fire Festival which will climax on Thursday evening. And as the forecast is now we're expecting some fine clear conditions on Thursday. From tomorrow onwards actually. The snow clouds should pack up and leave by early tomorrow morning, leaving us to a few days of clearer and milder weather conditions. • Nozawa Now: Sunday 18th January 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 687cm Posted on Sunday 18th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . You like fresh snow? We got it! After a day of snowfall and at times rather blusterly winds - at times the snow coming down at quite the speed - the resort is reporting over 50cm of fresh up at Uenotaira and a good solid 30+cm at base since my report yesterday morning. Interestingly less on the upper Yamabiko area than lower down. Dare I say it, but there should be some good deep conditions to be enjoyed this morning. Very nice. Looks like Kamoshika and Tanuki courses are closed this morning, I don't know why but imagine they are checking things over there with all the fresh snow. Nozawa is big scale though so plenty of areas to find that fresh snow. Looking ahead, after a day of cloud and sometimes light snow, a clear and cold night is forecast for tonight with more snow due later on tomorrow. Beyond that a few days of potentially clearer skies and then back to snow around Thursday into Friday. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. Today will be a very good one.
