As we had hoped it's keeping cold and should continue now like that into next week. It's still quite windy conditions out there which is affecting a few lifts... most noticeably that I can see at Yakebitaiyama where the Gondolas and Number 2 and 3 high speed lifts are on hold early morning. Cloud and snow showers forecast into the weekend, with a chance of more volume snow over Saturday and Sunday. Monday is a national holiday in Japan so we are approaching one of the main peak weekends of the season. Have to be careful when I say it's not cold as people coming from places where cold is less than +10C have a different view on these things! Cloudy really this morning. Sky and sun later maybe? That's what the forecast tells us. From around Wednesday we expect temperatures to drop once again back down to 'extremely cold' levels though it does not seem to be that we can expect heavy snow. More like just a bit here and there. Regular topups are what we (always) want. After the warmer climes of yesterday - when we avoided the rain that lots of areas got, it was snowing here in Kumanoyu where I was for the day - it's much colder this morning. It might have snowed yesterday and overnight but not much in terms of cm. Light snow still falling and a light wind (stronger in some exposed areas I suspect), but generally we're expecting cloudy conditions with just sometimes snow showers today, and a bit of sun tomorrow. Importantly it should be keeping cold this time and then dip further once we get into the weekend which at the moment is forecast to be generally snowy conditions again. Generally quite hard conditions out there yesterday, so a decent fresh layer of soft is what we would like. Up to 10cm of wet snowfall in some areas of Shiga Kogen overnight (Kumanoyu report 10cm), but it's a warm morning - well, warm for us, with the thermometer showing the temp to be around 2 degrees now. Still, it is snowing here in the Maruike area. Not the fluffiest of powder, but snow all the same and with the temps set to drop during the day we're hoping for some nicer snow to report tomorrow... should be continuing snowing through tomorrow too with another wave following up as we get into the weekend. A very cold start but the sun should take the edge of that chill as the morning moves on; the sun should be with us for the day today and maybe tomorrow too. The forecast for mid week seems to have been downgraded somewhat in terms of potential snowfall, but we're still forecast to be getting snow around Tuesday. It should be a fine weekend. This morning a bit of fresh snow on the ground and mostly cloudy conditions around the region, light snow falling in places. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Back to snow this morning, I was up at the Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama area just before and it was really coming down... couldn't see a thing. It's less so back here in the Maruike part of Shiga Kogen though a moderate wind blowing around at the moment. Snowfall not on the forecast for long today though so expect it to finish up and for some sun tomorrow. We'll be back to snow from Sunday afternoon though and through into Tuesday if the forecasts get it right. Sunday should be colder than tomorrow. Have a good weekend! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Ou-yuki! Heavy snow this morning to report with a very nice cold new layer of fluffy dry snow on the ground and across the mountains. Swirling winds are affecting some lifts around the Shiga Kogen resorts and I suppose it's unfortunately for lots of visitors that it is over the weekend, but the good refresh is most welcome. The wind is making it difficult to put a number on the snow but some resorts adding up to 30cm. Snow should ease today and by Tuesday we're expecting some clearer skies.
