It's been flurrying off and on all day long, but we haven't seen any of the substantial accumulations we've gotten used to seeing over the past several days. While the two or three centimeters of fresh powder on top of the snowpack might make for some comfy turns on the slopes, the flakes flying at the moment don't look like they'll be bringing the buckets of snow we'd all really like to see at the moment. On the temperature side of things, it was a cold one today, and it looks like it will be cold again tomorrow. Temps bottomed out at -12 last night, definitely the coldest air we've seen all season. Winds are light to calm at the moment. Tomorrow looks like it's going to be a frosty start, so for all you early risers out there looking to hit the slopes first thing Monday morning, be sure to bundle up before heading out. We're seeing scattered snow showers at the moment, leaving behind more of the white stuff every time the winds change. Overall, we've seen around 10cm of new snow since last night, and the flurries promise to fly for the rest of the day and on into the night. December is looking good, with snow in the forecast everyday for the next week. The big news today is that Sailer Course is now officially open for skiing from top to bottom. This is a welcome announcement, as there is plenty of fresh powder on the lower half of the mountain just waiting for the first turns of the season. It's currently -4 with light snow. Winds are light and variable, making it a perfect Saturday to get out there and enjoy all that new snow. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It's currently -3 and snowing outside, but the big story today is the wind whipping around out there. Wind speeds are currently clocking in anywhere from 5-7 m/s, with even stronger gusts at times. Unfortunately the resort has been forced to close the Kitanomine Gondola and Furano Downhill Romance Lift #3 for the time being, but safety is the number one concern here. On the plus side the snow is coming down in droves. However, with all that wind, the white stuff is being blown around and piling up on the sides of courses and lesser-traversed runs. The system moving across Hokkaido is coming from the south, bringing with it unseasonably warm temperatures. The forecast for the evening calls for this snow to turn into a wintry mix briefly before changing back to all snow, but we shall see what the weather has in store. Regardless, this should not affect the upper mountain, which should come away with plenty of fresh from this storm. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It has been snowing lightly all morning and has just started to come in quite heavy. This is fresh snow will accumulate through the day and tomorrow morning is likely to be very good indeed. Visibility is still good and the new snow has meant there is some great early season powder on the open runs. Overall it is quite a cold day with -11c at the top where the skiing is. Not too many people out there, so it would be a good time to get out and put in a couple of runs to welcome in the season. Furano Ropeway is open 8:30-14:40 for access to the upper mountain and the skiable lift is Furano Romance lift 2 open 8:45-15:00. At the moment the skiing is restricted to the upper mountain and to return to base it is necessary to use Furano Ropeway. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Well if you were in the resort over the weekend you will have experienced the extremes of the good and not so good. Saturday was unbelievably clear and blue, and was just an absolutely beautiful day which is why there was as much camera clicking as there was skiing. Sunday on the other hand brought with it moderate to strong winds. There was 10cm of snow deposited in the afternoon but then out of nowhere came a few hours of light rain and warm temps. Because of this the slopes will be a bit frosty today but it is currently snowing so the conditions are likely to be back to powder soon with light snow forecast throughout the week to base level. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano Ski Area commenced operation for the 2013-14 season yesterday. Very few made it up for the opening but those who did were treated to the best quality snow I have ever seen on an opening day. 10cm of snow fell Sunday morning and there has been another 10cm fall this morning, so conditions are improving substantially on a day by day basis. Temperatures are still warmer than is ideal but the top is staying below the magic 0C mark. Operating lifts: Furano Ropeway - for access only. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano was hit by a serious snow storm last night that dumped another 40cm at village level. This has changed things dramatically and we expect more of the mountain to open up over the rest of the week. The most significant change for today is that Downhill Romance 3 chair is now operating which opens up access to more challenging terrain. The snow that has fallen is very heavy compared to the normal Furano light powder and is perfect for bulking up the base. There has been 2cm of fresh snow overnight which has freshened up conditions on the mountain. It is quite warm at the moment and quite a few people are cruising around with jackets open and no hat which is quite an unusual sight for Furano. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano Ski Area reports that the Kitanomine Gondola will start operating today. This is a most welcome anouncement and gives access to a lot more terrain on the Kitanomine side side for intermediates and advanced skiers. Giant and Wide will still remain closed on the Kitanomine side, but Dynamic will open and link up the front face. The weather is blue skies and sunshine at the moment but is expected to turn to snow during the day. Winds are moderate at lower levels, and expect strong winds around the top. Hopefully the wind won't interfere with the season debut for the Gondola. The slopes have been replenished by new snowfall overnight which is a bit on the wet side but is ideal for covering up some of the thin patches that were starting to occur on the lower slopes. For those out early there will be some nice areas of untracked snow to play in. The weather is high cloud, and again not particularly cold for this time of year. The next few days are looking promising with snow forecast through the weekend and into next week. Night skiing opened on the Kitanomine side last night and with the mild temperatures today it will be a pleasant eveing for a bit of night skiing and taking in the view of the night lights. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Moderate falls over night were a bit wet but we have some nice flurry this morning being whipped around. This means that even with new snow there actually isn't quite enough to change the actual snow level, though any falls we have are most welcome at the moment and levels will improve as this week grows. Snow should continue flurrying for the rest of the day and be at its heaviest early tomorrow morning. The slight breeze will be noticeable at the top of the Gondola but well worth getting up there for advanced skiers. Furano side is offering better snow conditions at this stage. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Yesterday was an absolute stunning day with 40-50cm of fresh snow on the mountain which the groomers couldn't get to before the skiers. That snow was more than enough to completely cover up any thin patches and now the whole mountain is in fine condition. The Kitanomine courses of Giant, Dynamic, Wide and Training have now opened as a result of this new snow. Today is high overcast, calm and will be a fantastic day. All runs have been extensively groomed. Night skiing on the Furano side is now on the longer Downhill high speed quad.
