The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . New snow to report from Hakuba this morning. Yesterday by afternoon it was snowing and visibility up at Hakuba 47 where I boarding was pretty poor at times. Some nice big flakes coming down. This morning resorts around the village here are bringing in new snowfall numbers of just a few cm down at base and up to 20cm of fresh snow on the upper slopes. It's one of those mornings where there has been more snowfall to the north in Otari, and Hakuba Cortina this morning at reporting 25cm on the lower areas and up to 40cm up top. If you want the most fresh snow this morning, the Otari resorts would seem to be the place to be. Just be careful as all that new snow once again will increase the chance of avalanche or mishaps in the back and side country. Right now it is around -5C at Happo base and closer to -10C on the upper slopes, so nice and cold. Just a slight wind. This morning starts off generally just cloudy again with the chance of light snowfall through the day. There may be clearings though and a chance of seeing some sun. I can actually see some shadows being cast through the clouds now even over parts of the village. Tomorrow though, back to snow, perhaps with a vengeance. Some of the forecasts tell us to expect heavy snowfall going into the weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The light snow continued for much of yesterday but it didn't really do much to bring us any new cm to report this morning. The mountains for the most part remained shrouded in cloud. Hakuba Goryu wins the New Deep Snow Award this morning with 'up to 1cm' reported, easily beating the 0cm reported by the usual winner, Hakuba Cortina. ;) It's one of those mornings when there's a bank of cloud hanging around the upper parts of the resort areas but above that there's lots of blue sky to be seen. I'd prefer to have gone up there to check for myself, but a quick look around the webcams shows grey conditions up on Happo, clearer on Hakuba 47 and fine views looking north from Hakuba Iwatake. Lots of blue sky looking at the cam up from Hakuba Minekata. It's a nice cold morning and around -5C at the moment at village level. Hakuba 47 was recording a temperature of -12C up at 1450m as of 7am and currently it is around -8C at Usagidaira on Happo-one. Snow is forecast to be falling again soon though today and then it seems that the snow clouds are going to be with us on and off over the next run of days possibly through until early next week. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Not much in terms of new snow to report from Hakuba this morning. Yesterday we got to see some sunlight shine down on the village in the afternoon. Lots of clouds remained around the mountains but quite a lot of blue sky above the valley before evening arrived. This morning there's still a lot of cloud around but sunny in the village at the moment. A bit like how the day ended yesterday really. It is currently around -4C in Hakuba and Usagidaira at 1400m is recording a temperature of -9C, with just a slight wind - windier conditions on the mountain. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Conditions were rather... blustery... out on the mountain yesterday. Happo was largely closed for lots of the day and other places were limited due to the windy conditions. I made my way up to the top of Goryu in the afternoon along with a few other hardy souls. It kept on snowing, at times lovely great big flakes. 20cm or so during the day yesterday and another 10cm to add to that by this morning. Snow conditions were excellent, weather and general visibility less so! This morning I can see much more and the sun is making an early morning appearance too. There's quite a bit of blue sky up there, with some cloud hanging around covering the mountain backdrop to Hakuba. A cold morning and about minus seven degrees now in the Hakuba village area. Snow showers possible according to the local forecast, but it feels like the clear up may be happening now. Tomorrow might be bluebird time. From tomorrow through until the end of the week we can expect some milder temperatures with another topup of snow currently forecast just before the weekend. Looks like most resort areas are open today, though it seems that the top lifts at Happo - including Skyline - remain closed, so the wind still causing some issues up there apparently. Cortina mostly open with the Number 4 lift moving and earlier on the Number 5 being checked. Conditions today should be excellent, and the same avalanche advice applies. There's an abundance of untouched powder out there on lift-serviced terrain. Wind Moderate to strong Temperature - Visibility Not good Posted on Sunday 24th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Snow and more snow. And wind. It continues to snow. Since yesterday up to 50cm being reported (Cortina), with an average of up to 30cm around the village. It's certainly coming down this weekend. The trees are laden with snow and we feel right slap bang in the middle of winter. Let this feeling continue, especially as we are fast approaching March. Wind is affecting resorts. Happo is basically only lower lifts this morning as I write this, and the top lifts at Goryu are also on hold. Cortina has it's Number 4 and 5 lifts closed and related courses, due to avalanche risk, so all the goodies out there aren't accessible this morning. Hakuba 47 seems like it has most of it's area open this morning and so perhaps a good choice in terms of open terrain. It's -7 degrees at village level with a moderate wind here and it doesn't look like it's going to calm down much for the day today. Very dangerous avalanche conditions with all this new snow piling up. Please see yesterdays message and do take care. The storm should begin easing off tomorrow and if you are keen to see the sun, Tuesday might be a good idea to get up there. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. So yesterday we had that lovely bluebird start to the day. By early afternoon some fine wispy clouds had started to form and it gradually became more overcast and by late afternoon the sun was being blocked by cloud and we had a lot of cloud cover. It snowed a bit overnight with a few cm at village level and resorts in Hakuba and Otari reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow on the slopes this morning. This morning we start off cloudy and overcast, with some light snowing in some areas early on, and a current temperature of around 0 degrees. A high of around +5 is forecast today for Hakuba and so it's going to feel mild especially after the cold of the last week or so. Not much of a wind this morning at all. We are told to expect the skies to clear up as the day progresses today. Milder conditions and clearer skies are forecast over the next few days and especially on Friday when rain is looking probably unfortunately. Temps forecast to drop soon after that warm though with snow likely overnight into Saturday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After the very warm spring of yesterday, this morning we are back for a short blast of more winter like conditions in Hakuba. A modest dusting of fresh snow in places at village level, and resorts reporting a few cm at base and up to 5cm this morning. Not enough to cover the generally hard and icy conditions under it of course, but hey... it's snow! Mixed weather conditions this morning so far. Earlier on I saw quite a bit of blue sky behind the bank of clouds up there, but now it has really clouded over with some very poor visibility. A quick look at the Happo and Goryu upper webcams shows that visibility is down to almost nothing, but decent around the gondola at Hakuba 47. A moderate wind on mountain but resorts seem to be open as scheduled. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Lovely day yesterday and got quite warm midday. It's even warmer this morning with temperatures above zero. +4 here in Maruike. And rain is falling. As you might expect, no new snow to report. So cloudy skies and rain (borderline sleet in places) but more importantly a moderate wind in exposed places which is affecting lift operations at some of the ski areas this morning. Temperatures are forecast to drop later on today and I am hoping I can report fresh snow in tomorrows report. Snow clouds due over Shiga Kogen through the coming week, so fingers crossed we can get a decent amount out of them. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Well we were hoping for a nice new layer yesterday and indeed we did get some more snow but it's pretty minimal. A few cm would probably cover it, maybe 5cm or so on the slopes around Shiga Kogen. It's a beautiful morning here. About -3c in this Maruike area here and the Kumanoyu area reporting a low of -7. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . And yes we did get snow later on overnight and this morning about 10cm or so fresh on the ground. And it's going to be adding to that quickly as well as the snow is really coming down at the moment. Just how we like it. A moderate wind, but resorts seem to be operating as planned. I suspect that there might be a few lifts operating at reduced speed but other than that... It's about -8 degrees here in Maruike at the moment. Visibility is poor. Summary: mid winter day out there! The snow is forecast to ease off late today and tomorrow should start more calm, though we may get more snow tomorrow night. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning and it's back to snow. Around 5cm of snow to report and light snow falling still at 10am. Doesn't feel as cold this morning and in Maruike it's -7C, though Yakebitayama are reporting a very cold -15C over in that area. Just shows how much it can vary over the area. Cloud cover but for the most part visibility is decent around the resorts. Local forecast says light snow for the day and clearing up by this evening. To be followed by clear conditions tomorrow morning and likely blue skies and sun. And then back to snow just before the weekend. Bright and the sun trying to break through and if I had to guess I reckon it will clear up. More snow is due later on today though - perhaps after the lifts close - and so I should be able to report some more snowfall in my next report. Very cold this morning down to -13C here in the Maruike area. Holiday weekend crowds have gone and we're back to normal weekday. Which means quiet slopes!
