The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Yesterday we did have snow falling but it didn't really amount to much in terms of cm and lower down in Yuzawa it was raining. Thinking that big storm was on it's way last night, a bit surprised this morning to see the sun out though there are clouds still around and snow is likely to fall again today. Right now though there is hardly any wind either. As this is the first major miss by the weather forecast this season I'm not going to even try to say how much. Anyway we did get 10cm or so of snow since yesterday, so it's not all bad. (I just wanted my blizzard storm!!) The slopes were busy at Kagura and Naeba yesterday and they will likely be again today. From tomorrow until Friday, Naeba plans to have just the lower No5 quad lift operating. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . The snow has arrived in style! Strangely, Kagura aren't boasting about 70cm of new snowfall on their page, but that's what it amounts to and doesn't sound unrealistic to me. Naeba are saying they have had 50-80cm of new snowfall since yesterday and again I can believe that, there has easily been 50cm outside my place here since yesterday. From what I can gather Naeba isn't yet opening up more runs because of the new snow so they are going ahead as planned with the lower No4 and No5 lifts open this morning. Hopefully we can expect that to change fairly soon. Strong winds are preventing the Tashiro part of Kagura to open today, so it will be closed. This region really does turn it on in style when it wants to. It it still snowing and should continue at least into tomorrow. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Light snow early on this morning above both Naeba and Kagura... I would say less than 10cm here in Naeba and Kagura are telling me that they were on the receiving end of another 10-20cm of fresh snow since yesterday. The snow depth numbers are however unchanged. The snow clouds will probably be leaving us today for a while and tomorrow may well be clear and sunny. Might be a good day to get out there instead of the weekend if you can, especially as it still looks like it might be raining on Saturday. Kagura continues to be almost fully open with the lower run at Naeba open. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . It is a mild morning here but happily we seem to have avoided rain and this morning light (wet) sleet/snow is falling, though there's no new cm to report. Hopefully rain will hold off as temperatures rise a bit during the day, though we can't be surprised if we do get a bit, especially at base. Naeba has of course been part open for a while already but today is their official "Grand Open", the most important bit of that being that most of the courses on the mountain are now open to ski and board down. A few exceptions mostly the steeper slopes on the mountain. Nighta also starts properly from today at Naeba (there is never any nighta at Kagura of course), and tonight will be followed by some excite fireworks. Sugoi! Over to Kagura when I was there earlier it was raining lightly at Mitsumata base, but the resort is reporting light snow higher up. Go high, is the advice for the day. Tomorrow might start off cloudy or fine but that potentially heavy snowfall is still due overnight into the week. Would be good. The sun was out early on yesterday but it didn't last the day - I present evidence of 5-15cm of new snow here in Naeba (10cm or so under my feet this morning) and 30-40cm of new snow up at Kagura. It is -4C in the village area here and some new snow to slide on this morning. Just cloudy and a slight wind, with cloud forecast for the day. Perhaps some snow showers tomorrow but it will be milder and a chance we might see some rain still. Temperatures will drop later on Sunday though and hopefully we'll be seeing that decent snowfall that has been lingering about on the forecasts. With all that new snow up at Kagura once again, it should be very nice conditions today. We didn't avoid the rain completely yesterday unfortunately, but quickly looking to the good news Kagura this morning are reporting 20cm of new snowfall. Here in Naeba it is -3C and 5-10cm of new snowfall, not much of a wind, and light snow falling early this morning. Though actually it's also quite bright at the same time. We still have that decent snowfall for later today into tomorrow right? Seems so, though can't help feeling looking at the forecasts that it might not bring quite as much as we were hoping for. We'll see, and I'll let you know! Did you know that today is actually the Naeba Prince Hotel's 50th birthday? Happy Birthday! There'll be a few events going on today to celebrate. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . It was indeed a fine morning out yesterday and afternoon as well. Clouds did move in later in the day along with some strong winds and overnight we have another 20-30cm up top to report. Unfortunately the wind is preventing all of Kagura to open this morning... the Tashiro area is completely closed while from the Mitsumata Ropeway up to the Kagura Number 1 pair lift is the only area open. It's a similar kind of strory here in Naeba as well with the strong winds affecting operations - with just the lower lifts open. As Tashiro is closed, the Dragondola is not operating today either. 10-20cm of fresh snow here in Naeba this morning and more to fall during the day. From tomorrow until Saturday looks clearer and milder conditions followed by more snow on Sunday. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Santa has been kind to us and delivered another 10-20cm of fresh snow since yesterday. The sun is out as well, so it should be a fine morning out on the slopes of Naeba and Kagura. Cold and icy on the roads this morning but the fresh snow should be much softer out on the mountain. With the Dragondola now operating and linking up Naeba with Tashiro, there's no excuse for not getting out there. Well, maybe if you are far away that might be an excuse. ;) It might be a clear morning but snow should be falling again by the end of the day. After tomorrow though a few days of clearer weather promised in the run up to the last weekend of the year. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Are you one of the lucky ones? This morning should be great out there. After the snow of yesterday, and lots of the runs being untouched due to being closed yesterday, and the sun shining down this morning... it should be a fine start to the day. There is blue sky above Naeba village here this morning, and while there's still a fair bit of cloud over Kagura it feels like it's going to open up to be a clear kind of day. Since yesterdays report there has been at least another 20cm or so here and 30cm up at Kagura and so we have another nice new layer of fluffy snow to play in. After today, more clearish conditions tomorrow and Saturday along with milder temperatures. Snow to return Sunday. It's a lovely morning, though I would have preferred to be reporting huge amounts of fresh snowfall... seems that regions much further to the north of us here are getting the snow overnight. Here, we got none. Doh. Well, maybe a dusting but as good as none. But the good is that it's a lovely clear New Year morning - just some pretty fluffy white clouds up there - with just a slight breeze and everywhere is open. Snow later on tomorrow into Thursday? The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Got a bit excited yesterday didn't I? Oh well, I'm allowed when we get over 50cm in a day. It was a snowy one all of yesterday and we got another 20+cm of snow since my last report up top, probably more, and more like 10-15cm lower down. Where did all the clouds go? I ask because there are none up there now. Clear, blue skies. Lovely. And the snow is going to be top draw today. Resorts should be open as normal. More clearish conditions tomorrow but perhaps not as much as today and we don't have much snow lined up in the coming week on the latest forecast. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Some new snow to report this morning. A rather vague sounding 10-30cm at Kagura - presumably lower and upper areas - and more like 3-5cm here in Naeba village - so varying amounts but importantly some fresh snow. It is snowing this morning as well with snow forecast for the day. However it's not the kind of snowfall that brings with it large amounts of new cm on the ground so I wouldn't expect a big haul to report tomorrow morning. Could be wrong though! Update --- that 30cm is coming from the Tashiro area.
