A bit heavy and wet, but certainly much better than the rain that we were worrying about. It was snowing from late morning yesterday which was good to see. It is going to be interesting to see how the snow conditions are up there this morning. Investigations required! Anyway here's what the resorts are reporting this morning: Hakuba Happo-one: 10-30cm Hakuba 47: 20cm Hakuba Goryu: 10-15cm Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm It looks like some top lifts may be delayed this morning as the resorts cope with the conditions, but hopefully they'll get going quick. Hakuba Cortina this morning are putting out a warning of dangerous avalanche conditions, and that their Number 4 and 5 lifts are closed. Wherever you are today, take care out there and be sure you know where you're going. The forecast is looking good with colder conditions and snowfall lined up for most days in the coming week. That sounds good to me, bring it on. Hakuba 47: Hakuba Goryu is reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall. Top area opening delayed. There's quite a wind as well outside where I am here near Maruike and the blowy/snowy conditions are expected to continue for the day. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . The forecast yesterday warned of rain but when I got back to Madarao in the afternoon it was snowing which was good to see. A bit wet snow with the milder conditions but will definitely take it over wet rain! And from early this morning the snow was falling again and there's a few cm on the ground. It remains relatively mild but should be getting colder as the day goes on today. By 8 am, though, that rain had turned to snow, so time to get up and move some around so the fresh can start piling up again. Not a lot yet, but it's coming down pretty steadily now. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. Today looks set to be a relatively nice groomer day. There's a reasonable amount of cloud in the sky as well as some nice blue skies. Nothing looks to ominous though so I expect that the weather will hold. Since yesterday morning we have received a reasonable 10 cm of new snow although most of this has been compacted down by the groomers. Therefore today is definitely a day to get out and lay some hard carves down. The temperature is relatively warm and will potentially rise above freezing around midday. After today, however, according to the forecast, we are back to snow every day! Yay! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furuno's snowfall continues to tick over and we have had a further 5cm this morning. I have just been to check the mountain out and at the top of the resort there is closer to 10cm of fresh. In the village it is relatively calm but there is a light breeze on the mountain. It is snowing lightly and looks like it will continue to do so all day. Until 9:00am there was flat light all over the mountain making ground definition challenging, but the thin cloud cover has started to break and let light through, improving visibility considerably. Crisp start to the day but the sun is going to warm things up a bit. Hopefully by not too much. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I had a very good day yesterday and during 'lift time' on my 4 hours worth of adventure I spoke to people from China, US, UK, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Thailand which was fun. I even shared one lift with a Japanese person! Who lived in Australia. ;) It didn't really clear up properly yesterday and the light snow since my report yesterday morning amounted to 3cm of fresh for my report. This morning it is noticeably warmer outside and a generally overcast kind of start to the day. Cloudy conditions seem to be what is on the forecast for the day, but again there is a chance we might get to see some clearer conditions. There was a actually a bit of blue sky earlier on this morning, but the clouds have covered that back over for the moment. Tomorrow looks like a much more sure bet of sun with clearer skies forecast from the start of the day and the milder conditions continuing. The next snow we can expect is probably late Monday into Tuesday. In the meantime it is going to a busy and bustling weekend here in Niseko. As you might expect! Have a fun and safe Saturday, and see you tomorrow. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6am: -5℃, no snowfall. Moiwa 800m: -8.5℃, light NE breeze, no snowfall, 20cm snowdrifts. Annupuri 1150m: -9℃, light wind, 5cm snowfall. Hirafu 1250m: -11℃, W10m/s, light dusts. Kamui cape lighthouse: N6m/s, 1014hPa, 1.5m waves. The isobars are spreading out and the weather is calm. Snowdrifts have slowly developed above 800m elevation over the last 24hours snowfall. Looking at observations, the general avalanche hazard is low. The visibility is also good and the gates are expected to open from the morning. Ask the ski patrol some advice before stepping out of the gates. Too many flagrant tracks under the rope are left between Gate 1 and 2. We’d like to remind that many cases of avalanche accidents, including fatal ones, occurred around the slopes under the cornices of O-sawa (Annuri bowl). Accidents due to poor visibility have also occurred many times. Every single resort user is subject to obey the Rules of out of bounds riding. One track left under the rope would lead many others to do the same and eventually end up in an accident. Respect the Rules. Guides and tour leaders have the responsibility to tell their guests to do the same, as well as ski resorts and their patrollers have the responsibility to appropriately enforce these Rules.
