Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 12cm
Snowfall at base this season 328cm

Posted on Monday 6th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Fresh snow on the ground this morning, though not the lightest and fluffiest kind. A bit heavy and wet, but certainly much better than the rain that we were worrying about. It was snowing from late morning yesterday which was good to see. It is going to be interesting to see how the snow conditions are up there this morning. Investigations required!

Anyway here's what the resorts are reporting this morning:

Hakuba Happo-one: 10-30cm

Hakuba 47: 20cm

Hakuba Goryu: 10-15cm

Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm

It looks like some top lifts may be delayed this morning as the resorts cope with the conditions, but hopefully they'll get going quick.

Hakuba Cortina this morning are putting out a warning of dangerous avalanche conditions, and that their Number 4 and 5 lifts are closed. Wherever you are today, take care out there and be sure you know where you're going.

The forecast is looking good with colder conditions and snowfall lined up for most days in the coming week. That sounds good to me, bring it on.
