The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is a truly cold morning here in Furano at -11c. There is plenty of good to report with a further 20cm on new snow over night, clear skies and no wind. You couldn't ask for much more than that! Temperatures in the village will head up to a high of -3c. The variability in the temperatures will continue and tomorrow we will be into warm positives again and may even see a bit of rain. The ski area is looking very good indeed with all this recent snow. Yesterday it was still only one lift on the upper mountain operating. Hopefully, with the overnight snow, the resort will be able to open up some of the courses back to base. We will have to wait and see if anything is announced today. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. I was away but it seems that both Ichinose Family and Takamagahara Mammoth 'pre-opened' over the weekend, though they are closed again from today through Thursday, with a possible re-opening properly for the season from Friday. So to sum up - we're back to just Kumanoyu being part open for the moment. The snow reported today is 1cm from Saturday morning and 4cm from overnight. It's a lovely morning here. The sun is out and there's less and less cloud and blue sky. Going to be a very fine day. Sun and warmer temperatures are on the cards for tomorrow and it'll be around Thursday before things get much colder again. Not a whole lot of snow on the forecasts, perhaps some on Thursday. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hello everyone on this Happy Monday, with four more days left in November. I'm very happy to report that the fantastic start to our season here in Niseko is continuing in style. I have measured another 21cm of fresh snowfall to add to the report, bringing us up to a whopping 183cm new for the month so far. And it is still snowing, though the forecast says we can expect it to stop and perhaps see sunshine later. We are still due to see that spike in temperatures tomorrow but it won't last long with snowfall due once again before the end of Wednesday. Yesterday I heard some locals moaning about 'too much snow'. As I'm sure you'll agree, that really is just silly. They were suitably scoffed at for such silliness. :) I can't imagine ever thinking there's too much snow, just getting overly-excited about it; and perhaps somewhat tired shovelling it. I have also been asked - is Niseko was busy yet? The simple answer is... no. I would imagine that those who are here right now are feeling very pleased with themselves. And a fair few of the folk out there sliding are likely people who are here to work for the season, rather than visitors. It may suddenly feel like mid-season, but in some ways things are still in gearing up. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . A bit of light snow came down early afternoon. Come evening I went for a walk and was surprised to find it snowing heavily with accumulation on the ground of 15cm. This morning I have measured 20cm of new snow at village level, so that is a really good dump that will mean epic conditions this morning on the mountain. Skies are overcast and calm but temperatures have spiked up and it is +2c right now and expected to go up to +6c. This is going to make the village pretty slushy today. Best to get out and enjoy the new snow while it is light and powdery as that is going to change as the morning rolls on. Furano Zone partially open. Kitanomine Zone closed. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. And it's another really, really good morning and I can confidently add another 27cm to the reports. I have now reported a very impressive 162cm of snowfall this month here at base which is way more than recent seasons - and crazily more than some (I'm talking about you 2014-2015). You can of course keep tabs on this kind of information lower down this page and on the 'Snowfall Analysis' page... just click on the big blue tab at the top of this page. This morning the Niseko Grand Hirafu official snow depth at top has hit 200cm already. Let me just check... yes, it is still only 26th November. Anyway, I mentioned wind yesterday. It doesn't feel too windy outside where I am, but having said that at the start of the day the Annupuri Gondola and Jumbo Number 3 lifts are on standby due to wind conditions over there, so let's hope they can get moving sooner than later. It's just generally cloudy as I write my report though the snow clouds are still around and there's a chance of some more flakes. It's not crazily cold this morning. We are expecting some milder conditions early to mid-week, with a return to fresh snowfall around Wednesday. A few more courses are now available at Niseko Grand Hirafu - details below. Lots to report this morning with Happo-one back open and Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike Kogen opening up - along with Hakuba Goryu of course. I have been checking the details and the open status of each resort at the start of the day today is noted below. Like I said, Happo-one open again this morning and they have got more lifts moving too with the Panorama, Usagidaira and Kurobishi areas all due to be open. I'd say we are off to a very good start! The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning. And what a lovely morning it is. How do you like the sound of a good 25cm of fresh snowfall? I thought you'd like that. We are certainly being treated this early season - it's quality snow too, not wet and heavy slush. And remember, this is down here at base and there will be more 'up there'. Talking about 'up there', I notice that Niseko Grand Hirafu are now reporting a snow depth of 185cm. Even so, they do not appear to be opening up any more lifts or courses though just yet. More snow is due through today and tomorrow so it's not drying up just yet. Mostly cloudy at the moment with light snow falling in places; some small areas of sky on view in places as the clouds move around. Keep an eye on wind conditions though; there's a chance of some stronger gusty conditions over the weekend, Today sees the Niseko Annupuri Kokusai resort area of Niseko open for the season. They have their Gondola as well as Jumbo Number 1 and 3 lifts operating this morning with the Utopia, Shirakaba, Paradise and Junior courses open. You can even ski back down to base it would seem, though they are warning about bushes and stones sticking up from the snow - so be careful with new gear if you take it out. (I wouldn't). Niseko Annupuri also have a new ski lift installed at the base area this season - more on that in a later report. Those of you who have followed my reporting in recent years will know that while I do get very excited when it's justified, I don't go overboard and 'over-report'... but I am genuinely excited about this excellent start to the season here. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello from Hakuba and it's a snowy morning here. I am measuring 12cm of fresh snow on the ground and I noticed that Hakuba 47 are reporting up to 20cm in their base area. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions this morning the Happo-one resort - reporting over 20cm of snowfall on upper slopes - will remain closed today. And this morning I also have some updates from Tsugaike Kogen. They planned on opening yesterday but that rain we had didn't help with the snow base and so they postponed opening. There's no word yet early this morning, but I expect they will get some lifts moving as soon as they can. The forecast is good for snow through the day today and hopefully tonight too, so I should have more fresh numbers to report tomorrow morning. Clearer weather is forecast into early next week and perhaps some sunshine too. Already started their season: Hakuba Happo-one Closed today due to weather and snow conditions. Hakuba Goryu The Hakuba Goryu gondola and Alps Number 1 pair lift are operating. The top Panorama course is open. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Hirafu. Another 8cm of fresh snowfall at base greeted me this morning when I went outside... and a return to very cold conditions too. Brrrr. The forecast shows more snow on the way through the weekend too. Snowfall is expected today and there's lots of cloud around this morning but there is also some sunshine coming through in places as I write this. Hold on... update since I started putting this report together: snow is falling again. So as you can see, it's rather changeable early on. I was just reading some of the other reports to see how they were doing... it looks like Japan is having a very nice early season. 18cm of fresh snow to report to you this morning here in Zao and snow is still falling. I don't have official news regarding ski lifts starting to move, though there are whispers of a Saturday (25th) opening. With more snow due around Friday, I'd say it was a possibility. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen where there's another impressive layer of snow to report. I'm measuring 16cm; Kumanoyu are reporting 10cm of fresh on their slopes and my friend is reporting a whopping 30cm. I'm sure sometimes he builds it up and measures that. ;) Still just part of Kumanoyu is open (Number 2 pair lifts servicing a 600m long course), but I would not be surprised to see more lifts moving soon. Yesterday Okushiga Kogen were reporting 30-50cm of snow on their slopes. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Update at 10:30am Season In! Happo-one were reporting 60cm of snowfall on the mountain this morning and they opened at 9:30am with the Kokusai Number 1 and 3 lifts operating. A special lift ticket price of 2600 yen for adults and 1000 yen for children is available. Hakuba 47 were reporting 40-50cm of snowfall on the mountain with up to 60cm up top. (Apologies for my excited mistaken comment earlier one - the Alps Number 1 lift is of course a Hakuba Goryu lift, not a Hakuba 47 lift. I have edited that below). So the Hakuba Goryu gondola and Alps Number 1 pair lift are operating this morning with the Panorama course available to slide down. I'm not hearing anything from Tsugaike yet. Original morning report What a beautiful morning it is. The sun is out, there is a mix of blue sky and cloud and most importantly there is a lovely layer of fresh snow on the ground down to village. Our few measuring points tell us 23cm to add to the report with of course more than that higher up. And there's more... Happo-one are actually going to open today (Kokusai Number 1 and 3 lifts) at a still undetermined time but perhaps before lunch. And there's more... Hakuba Goryu are going to open today (top Alps Number 1 lift) at 10:30am. I want to get this report out quickly so I will be checking information again a little later this morning and updating this report, so do come back!
