The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Morning greetings to you all. And this morning I have 5cm of fresh snow to report. And, yes, it is snowing. Quite bright though this morning (at least here in the village as I write this; not so much by looking at the webcams) and it feels fairly calm, so I expect the top lifts should be able to open as normal. So there's not quite as much fresh this morning, but the forecast still shows consistent snowfall over the coming week and into March. If the sun does get to make a guest appearance sometime, make the most of it because it isn't due to stick around for too long! --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 5.00am: -11°, trace new snow, calm. Moiwa 800m: -12°, WNW2.5m/s, cornice and snowdrift development until midnight. Annupuri 1150m: -13°, NW10m/s, snow wind is calming down. Hirafu 1250m: -15°, light wind, snow wind is calming down. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NW11m/s. Kamui Cape: W9m/s, 1018hPa, wave 1.4m. The pressure gradient is levelling out and the sea and mountains are finally calming down. Cornice and snowdrift development are starting to settle down. From observation snow has stabilised, the general slope avalanche risk is low. No 2,3 peak gates are expected to be open. Please listen to the patrols advice and be prepared before going out of bounds. The weather is expected to deteriorate after lunch. Plan accordingly. Leeward slopes in the forest have good snow. Be careful falling into cracks, hitting trees or getting lost. Following someone you don't know is easy way to get lost, always know your current location. From data and analysis the avalanche risk at Kozan no sawa sidewall, Osawa cornice slope near 1000m, Higashi One far side continues to be high. Ride the fall line, don't ever traverse steep slopes under cornices. Many people are stopping in the valley bottoms so be careful near and under cornices they may collapse suddenly without warning. When above them stay a save distance (10m) from the edge. This report is published daily to try and prevent accidents of ski resort users. Hoping there is no accident today. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . After a clear afternoon and evening yesterday, the snow is back! We have had 5cm already, and the clouds are still rolling in. We can expect light snow to continue throughout today, with modeset accumulations of a few cm. The wind will be light to moderate today. The air temperature will remain just below 0°C at the base, which will feel cool without the sun. The pistes will be a little slower today than yesterday, due to the fresh snow. Looking forwards, we can expect a clearer day tomorrow with mild air temperatures. There will be some snow later in the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures will stay mild until at least Saturday, when conditions are expected to become cooler after a potentially small snow deposition on Saturday night. The wind will remain moderate to light throughout the week, with the exception of Saturday night, with stronger winds accompanying the snow. There has been a total of 14cm since yesterday and it is currently snowing moderately. It is forecast to snow lightly throughout the day. A bit of a fresh snow covering though not major (I noticed Kumanoyu are reporting 10cm) and it is actually snowing lightly at the moment. Visibility is generally decent though. Just a dusting on lower areas as it snows this morning with the resort reporting 10cm on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas. Fingers crossed we'll get some more fresh today and then it looks like there's a chance of a sunny day tomorrow though thankfully it's not set to warm up. I feel less people around on the slopes this week, but Nozawa is a big place anyway so there's plenty snow to share around. Lots of blue sky in the morning yesterday with cloud gathering once again in the afternoon, temperatures dropping and some light snow falling in places. Quite windy too. A bit of a contrast in conditions during the day and also base to higher up. And there is fresh snow to report this morning. So here we go: Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm Hakuba Happo-one: 15cm (top Gondola station) Hakuba Goryu: 2-5cm Hakuba 47: 5-15cm I am measuring 3cm. So just looking at those numbers in themselves, looks like the places to the north got a bit more. It's the 48th Happo-one Fire Festival on Friday and you'll be able to find that over on the lower Nakiyama area. There will be lots of events and entertainment going on including Taiko drums and ski/board demonstrations... and it will apparently the finale will 'end with a bang'. So there you go! It all starts at 7:30pm (on Friday). The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba! We have had 6cm of very dry, light snow since about 5:30am this morning, and it's currently showing no signs of slowing. The dryness of the snow indicates that it was formed in a cool band of air, meaning it will likely feel cold out there today despite the relatively comfortable -6°C air temperature. There is little wind to report at the base, but as you ascend up the mountain it picks up to a moderate wind. The snow is predicted to continue throughout today and tonight, at albeit a lighter rate of accumulation. Looking forwards, we can expect light snow to continue tomorrow, accompanied by light winds and an air temperature of just below 0°C. Accumulations will likely be modest. On Thursday and through Friday we can expect the skies to clear a little, with possible some sunshine. On Friday night, temperatures are predicted to drop again and the wind to pick up, with some further snow blowing in for the weekend. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. A little light snow falling earlier on, but that has cleared up for now and while there is still cloud around - more in some places than others - there's an increasing amount of blue sky and the sun is out. Just a slight cover of snow to report, but it's keeping cold and conditions should be really great this morning. I know where I'm going. Good questions asked: "How can Sun Valley have an official snow depth of only 110cm, and the fairly close-by Nishitateyama be on 300cm?" I'm not the one to answer that - in fact I'd love to know myself! I'm just passing on what they put out there. Sun Valley always seems silly low, especially after we enjoy heavy snowfall over a few days and it doesn't move. I don't take much notice of the official snow depths for a bunch of reasons. The most important number to me is how much fresh snow has been falling over the last few days. A bit more fresh snow to report this morning and the day is starting with mostly cloudy skies and very light snow falling just now. Snow falling at times over the next few days seems to be what the forecasts are saying. And maybe by the end of the week we will see some sunshine. Visibility looks pretty good on most of the mountain, limited currently on the top Yamabiko runs. Nasuki is all set for the day and looking particularly happy and definitely up for it. Hope to see some of you on the slopes. I think I must have spoken to folk from 20 different countries over the last week here in Nozawa. That wasn't something you could do when I first came here over twenty years ago... The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . It's a clear start today, with a few clouds drifting about the valley and a light wind. After the 51cm of new snow received until yesterday morning, surprisingly only 6cm further accumilated in the past 24 hours. The strong winds yesterday will likely have both impacted this accumlation, and also shifted significant amounts of snow about the mountain so expect some deep snow drifts on lee-side (southerly) slopes ! This also means there will likely be some scouring occuring on windward (northerly) slopes, so pick your ski runs wisely today. For th remainder of today, we can expect light to moderate winds, accompanied by cloud blowing in and out of the valley. Visibility will be variable as a product of this. We may also recieve a small accumlation of new snow today and overnight tonight. Looking fowards, the forecast indicates an unstable week ahead. Snow is predicted on and off, with accumilations most likely occuring on Tuesday night. The wind will be persistant this week, only calming to 5kmph on Thursday. The air temperature will remain comfortably below 0°C unti at least Thursday also, with daytime highs maxing out at -1°C. After a calm day on Thursday, stormy weather will be pushing back in on Friday, with air temperatures plummeting again to highs of -6°C overnight on Saturday. Snow and moderate wind will also be back for another round of winter over the weekend. It's cold and there's all that snow we got that I reported yesterday out there as well, so it should be really excellent conditions today. What more can I say!
